Arsenal ready to agree £35m deal to complete signing of 21-year-old defender

Caglar Soyuncu has been seen as a near-prodigy at his current club, Freiburg. The centre-back joined the club in 2016 at the age of 20 and has since made 49 appearances for the team, scoring one goal.

The Telegraph reports that an agreement will soon be met between the two clubs and that it is very likely that the Turkish international will join the Gunners after the new manager joins the club.

It looks very possible that this transfer will be the first signing of the summer for Arsenal, who desperately need to bolster their defence after a very shaky season.

The core of Arsenal’s defence has been Laurent Koscielny, aged 32, who has been the stand-in captain for the majority for the season and one of the only solid components of the Arsenal defence.

The Frenchman has recently been ruled out for 6 months leaving the North London side exposed in defence for a large portion of next season. Along with this, the retiring of Per Mertesacker and the uncertainty surrounding Hector Bellerin may leave Arsenal lacking depth at the back and in need of a new set of legs.

Soyuncu stands at an impressive 6’2 which makes him a serious threat in the air. This is an area that Arsenal have arguably struggled in for several years now and he could be the man to help the team compete in the air.

After a huge update from a sky sports reporter on Max Allegri’s chances of joining the arsenal which can be seen here, it is looking more and more likely Mikel Arteta will be the man to replace Arsene Wenger. With an unknown managerial style, there’s no way of telling how the Spaniard will affect transfers if he is the new manager.

It looks to be an exciting summer ahead for Arsenal fans, with many believing that along with the departure of Arsene Wenger there will be a huge overhaul of both players at the club. With this in mind no player should feel safe. The new manager could affect the team in any way, so be prepared for changes.

Italian journalist confirms Massimiliano Allegri will stay at Juventus

Fabrizio Romano, a prominent reporter for Sky Sports has revealed that Massimiliano Allegri confirmed he will be at Juventus next season, Ending many Arsenal fans’ hopes that the club would bring the veteran manager in.

In his tweet, Romano wrote that Allegri stated “I’ll be at Juventus next year, if they don’t sack me…” he also added that it is highly unlikely Juventus will let him go given his success in winning the domestic double of the Coppa Italia and the Serie A title four times in a row, being the only manager to do this.

Recently the two favourites for the Arsenal manager job have been Max Allegri and Mikel Arteta. Arteta is now looking most likely to take the job even knowing he has had no managerial experience and only a highly commended time as a coach at MAnchester City.

When Arsene Wenger announced his exit, the 36 year old Spaniard was seen as a wildcard, but now Mikel Arteta leading the North London club looks very possible and could be announced in the coming weeks.

Several other managers have been tipped off to be the new manager, including Julian Nagelsmann, the young boss currently managing Hoffenheim and Patrick Vieria.

At 30 years of age, Julian Nagelsmann is incredibly young by managerial standards. The youngest manager in the Bundesliga has also been shown to be one of the most talented, leading lowly 1899 Hoffenheim from 15th when he joined in 2016 to 3rd in the 2017/18 season.

Patrick Viera played under Arsene Wenger and played in the great Invincibles squad. He has since been a development coach at Manchester City and then has gone on to become the head coach at New York City FC with whom he has led from being 17th in 2015 to being 4th in 2016 in Vieria’s first season and 2nd in 2017.

Previously there were many reports linking Luis Enrique to the Arsenal but the chances of the Barcelona manage joining the Arsenal is now slim, after reports that the Spanish manager had huge wage demands and would only join if given a vast transfer budget.

This being said, no candidate is really off the table at such an uncertain time for Arsenal, so we can only wait to see who takes the job.

David Ornstein reveals Freddie Ljungberg will return to Arsenal in a coaching role

Arsenal Stadium

Reliable BBC journalist David Ornstein has confirmed that former Arsenal player Freddie Ljungberg will return to the club as a youth coach, revealing that the deal is already done.

The Swedish international featured in over 320 games during his spell at the North London club and will be making a return to the club after 11 years.

Ljungberg might take over the reigns of the U-23 side from Steve Gatting, who along with his assistant Carl Laraman was suspended a few days back after bullying claim by the players.

In Arsenal’s recent Premier League International Cup fixture against Porto, Kwame Ampadu(Gunners Under-18) coach took charge of the Under-23 side as well. It might so happen that Ljungberg might take over the U-18 role with Ampadu moving upwards to handle the U-23 side.

Anyways back to the Ornstein’s tweets, where he has also discussed Arsenal’s managerial situation claiming that former Arsenal players Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira are in the race for the top job with Ljungberg definitely returning as a youth coach:

After retiring from football, the winger took up a coaching role with Arsenal’s u-15 back in 2016. He then left the club in 2017, to work as an assistant coach at VfL Wolfsburg under Andries Jonker.

It would be great to have the 41-year-old back at the club to work with the next generation players. He was part of the Arsenal squad, which dominated the Premier League in the early-2000’s under the aegis of Arsene Wenger and this experience would help the youngsters immensely.

The North London club are in a restructuring phase after Wenger’s departure and having some of your former players back at the club will definitely the blow.

Arsene Wenger departs: Time to reflect on his career and achievements

Financially, Arsenal are in good shape, they own their stadium and have a steady stream of revenue for the next 5 to 10 years. The Arsenal academy has unearthed a nucleus of talent which will serve the club well in the future and this is in no small part, is due to Arsene Wenger.

The results haven’t been what they should have been over last 8 or so seasons and the silverware has been scarce. What a pity the Frenchman’s ambition and endeavour wasn’t matched by the team he managed late in his career.

He always wanted to win and struggled with failure but until the very last day of his tenure, Wenger was a devoted servant to the club he loved. It was more than a job, it was a vocation, a passion and by football standards, a lifetimes work.

The Wenger era gave supporters so much, including unparalleled success from 1996 to 2004 and at that time Highbury was a magical place, where fans witnessed the type of football that was more associated with other leagues around the globe. There were stars, so many stars, that went on to achieve fame and fortune at other clubs but their careers were built at Highbury and established by Wenger.

He was a pioneer, he changed the ambitions of every club in the Country. Managers and their teams tried their best to replicate a style of football that had been alien to these shores. It may sound like an exaggeration but it isn’t, before Wenger’s arrival, teams would gain an advantage and promptly lock the doors, grinding out wins and results in a dreary fashion and Arsenal were one of them.

The splendour of Wenger’s initial reign was only matched by the silverware and adulation that Wenger and his squad were afforded. There was an undeniable class about their attacking game and a style that somehow made them appear superior to those they faced. It was a time of outstanding brilliance, a period of sustained quality, that will be committed to the hearts and minds of diehard Arsenal supporters.

The second phase of the Wenger era was a series of disappointments, a new stadium meant that Wenger reluctantly had to sell the best of his players and as a result, they became underachievers and also-rans. The glory days, however , were incredibly special and those that never had the opportunity to see the Arsenal sides during those periods are entitled to feel hard done by.

Wenger’s story is one of an unknown manager transforming an average side, playing average football, without grace or finesse into a brand. The most exciting football in the World was played at north London and even the impartial football fan grudgingly acknowledged the sheer brilliance of the Arsenal team Wenger had assembled.

If Wenger is to be judged by football and its fans, they will have to dig deep, ignore the ineptitude of recent years and recognise the work of a single-minded man who wanted to play football in the right manner. Manchester City are the closest there has been to a Wenger team but they will be judged on their future achievements under Pep Guardiola and measured against an Arsenal at its peak.

It’s staggering to think that Wenger only claimed three Premiership titles, it’s scant reward for the enjoyment Wenger gave us. He deserved so much more and the fact that his rival Sir Alex Ferguson achieved 13 titles with a much less gifted side must rile the Frenchman.

He believed in beauty and simplicity and made it part of Arsenal’s DNA. In recent seasons, only glimpses have been evident but before he had to sell the shirt off his back to finance a stadium, it was delivered on a weekly basis. Wenger expected the good times to return, his work was still of the highest standard, his commitment was undiminished, yet with all the strength of character and determination, he was unable to make it happen.

His most recent collection of players are simply not of the same spirit or in the same class as his best team ‘The Invincible’s’ and the performances of the side in the last few years have dwindled season after season. Every Arsenal fan should be grateful and celebrate Wenger’s Arsenal career. It’s a sad end but one that is absolutely necessary for the club. The awful thing is that we may not see an Arsenal side under any manager play the same as Wenger’s at their peak. It may be one of those sporting moments that is consigned to memory, we will see.

Like Ferguson at United, Wenger casts a huge shadow over Arsenal and after he leaves, we will all learn if life at the Emirates is better without him or not. Characters like Wenger and Ferguson come along very rarely but they will always be part of the English games fabulous history. Merci Arsène, pour le beau football, le succès et les trophées. Chaque fan d’Arsenal vous souhaite du succès.

Arsenal interested in Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly

With Laurent Koscielny’s recent Achilles injury ruling him out for six months and overall a very poor season defensively for the Gunners, many fans believe a new Center-Back is a vital purchase for the upcoming transfer window.

This season alone, Arsenal have conceded 51 goals, which is the most Arsene Wenger has ever conceded in a single season. Whichever manager comes in, a change must be made defensively.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been a key part of Napoli’s defence in what has been a brilliant season for the Naples side, who are set to finish 2nd in Serie A, losing their ambitious title challenge late in the season to the defending champions Juventus.

The Senegalese international has been the center of several clubs’ attention in the past few years, with Chelsea showing reportedly pursuing the player but signing David Luiz instead of him due to financial concerns.

Standing at 6’4 the Centre-half would certainly help with Arsenal’s aerial ability to score and defend at set-pieces.

According to reports in the Express, Napoli have set a £53 million price tag on the 26-year-old which may be threatening to derail Arsenal’s bid. Missing out on Champions League qualification and finishing a lowly 6th in the Premier League in a frustrating end to the season will leave the new manager with a heavily depleted transfer budget.

Whether the North London club would be willing to shell out a very large portion of the budget for one player will be the deciding factor in this bid’s chances of taking place.

With Max Allegri spending a huge $492,550,000 since joining Juventus in the 2014/15 season, his free-spending may mean if he is the new manager this deal looks very likely.

On the other hand, the other favourite for the job, Mikel Arteta has an unproven managerial style which may go either way with the 36-year-old potentially wanting to overhaul the squad but with it being much more likely the ex-Arsenal player would want to be fairly conservative with his spending on his return to the club due to huge pressure mounting on the Spaniard.

Any transfers which may be in the pipeline now will be largely dependent on whom the board appoints as the new manager in the coming weeks. Will we see the

Five Arsenal players who made big impacts in the World Cup

Arsenal Stadium

English club Arsenal is known for producing magnificent players and boasts more World Cup winners than any other Football club in the league. While West Ham and Manchester United have three World Cup winners each, Arsenal’s tally went up to six when Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker helped Germany lift the World cup in 2014.

Of those who won the World Cup with different clubs but later played for Gunners include Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Gilberto. As the 2018 FIFA World Cup creeps towards us, we give you five Arsenal players who made a lasting impact with their performances in World Cups.

1.Mesut Özil

Having over 89 international caps for Germany, Ozil delivered a phenomenal campaign in the 2014 World Cup. After ending Germany’s World Cup Qualifying campaign with a jaw dropping tally of eight goals, Ozil suffered an injury that caused him to move from his favourite left-winger position.

In spite of this, Ozil started all of the games for his country and scored his first goal in the 2-1 victory over Algeria in the round of 16. The semi-final against Brazil saw him providing the assist for Sami Khedira’s goal, helping Germany’s 7-1 annihilation of the World Cup favourites. Ozil ended the tournament with the highest number of passes completed (171) and stood second in chances created (17).

2.Cesc Fabregas

After carrying the Spanish team to the semi finals in the 2009 Confederations Cup, Fabregas cemented his spot in the 2010 FIFA World Cup playing squad. Although he did not start any of the games for Spain, Fabregas came as a substitute in four matches. The Spaniard played an integral role in the final, where he provided the assist which split the Dutch defence to reach Andrés Iniesta, who easily netted the ball.

3.Thierry Henry

Henry was playing for Monaco and was only 20 years of age, when he was called up for France’s 1998 FIFA World Cup squad. Barely known before the World Cup, Henry ended the tournament as France’s top-scorer, netting the ball on the three occasions. Henry was made Chevalier of the Legion d’honneur, which is France’s highest decoration. He joined Arsenal the next year and went on to become the club’s most prolific players.

4.Patrick Vieira

Having debuted for France in 1997 and a part of Arsenal’s squad since 1996, it came as a surprise to everyone when Vieira was picked up for the 1998 World Cup squad. However, he did not disappoint and played a key role in the final against Brazil, where he provided the assist for Petit’s goal and helped his country clinch the title. Patrick too was made Chevalier of the Legion d’honneur.

5.Emmanuel Petit

Emmanuel Petit was a gunner since 1997 and was representing France since 1990 when he was picked up for the French World Cup in 1998. The first goal came from his boot in a match against Denmark, when he scored from outside the box and the goal turned out to be the winner. His second goal in the World Cup won France the match along with the World Cup. The goal was the last World goal of the 20th Century along with being the 1000th goal for France Football Federation. Petit, along with all the other players in the team were knighted for their contribution.

Riyad Mahrez wants Arsenal move this summer, ahead of Real Madrid and Man City

mahrez

Riyad Mahrez proved to be a revelation in Leicester’s title-winning season in the 2015/16 campaign. Since then the forward has been continuously linked with a move to Arsenal.

According to a report by DonBalon.com, the Algerian 27-year-old is “very clear” that he would like to move to the Arsenal.

It further states that both Real Madrid and the Premier League champions Manchester City are interested in the player. However, the Leicester star wants to feel important at a club, and at both Manchester City and Real Madrid he would be ‘just one more among a large cast of stars’.

Many outlets believe that Mahrez going to Man City is almost a done deal now at a reported £65m so it could be a shock to many fans if Arsenal manage to turn the deal around.

In 2017, Arsenal supposedly made a bid for the player that was turned down by Leicester for financial purposes. Many believe this left Mahrez furious after he had asked to leave the club that summer.

With 12 goals and 11 assists this season he has proven himself yet again to be a clinical and very creative player who was voted the PFA player of the year in the 2015/16 season. Known for his silky dribbling and his natural flair, the player normally plays on the right wing but has moved into midfield at times in his career.

This news comes at a time where Arsenal’s future is unclear, with Wenger’s vacant position and several candidates looking up for the job, it is hard to predict how the Gunners will act when the transfer window opens.

The new manager may have a hard time capturing the services of world-class players such as Riyad Mahrez after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League, finishing 6th this season.

It was a disappointing season for the Arsenal fans who perhaps believed the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could revive the Gunner’s attack. With Aubameyang becoming the fastest Arsenal player in history to score 10 goals, many may ask whether a move for Mahrez would be the best option instead of acquiring a strong defender to solidify the team.

Arsenal Player ratings: Aubameyang and Ospina impress as Wenger says goodbye

It was a day where the performance was not at the forefront, with the focus on Arsene Wenger as he took charge of his final game of the season.

The Gunners impressed in stages and managed to gain a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield, with the home side threatening the clean sheet in the second half.

Although it was a chance for the Arsenal player’s to impress a new manager for the first time in 23 years, a number of players failed to stake their claim in next season’s first eleven.

There were two players who impressed, David Ospina and Pierre-Emerick- Aubameyang, with both playing a pivotal role in winning the three points.

David Ospina: 8 out of 10 Man of the match

A strong all-around display and made some fine saves from Laurent Depoitre’s header and Tom Ince’s strike in the second half. The fact he is the man of the match doesn’t bode well for the performance and indictment of the outfield players though.

Hector Bellerin: 6

Huddersfield’s threat wasn’t coming from Arsenal’s right and was solid enough in defence. Average going forward.

Shkodran Mustafi – 5.5

Best of the centre-backs, marginally, and gained a clean sheet. Struggled from the aerial threat of the two forwards.

Rob Holding – 5

Lost the ball too often and allowed the pressure to build. Delpoitre and Steve Mounie were able to beat him in the air too many times in the air. After a disappointing season, Holding will be hoping to improve performances next year.

Sead Kolasinac – 6

Decent performance is all that can be said. Going forward was ok and his brute strength allowed a more commanding performance when had to defend.

Granit Xhaka – 6

Was the best of the midfielders this afternoon, and looked more of a threat going forward as he passed the ball into attacking spaces quickly and more efficiently. Was the best to deal with Huddersfield’s pressing and game plan.

Aaron Ramsey – 5

Poor performance from Rambo although his work for the goal demonstrated his qualities.

Alex Iwobi – 5.5

Lost the ball on too many occasions as he played in a deeper role than normal.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6

Had an influence in the goal but his final ball for the rest of the game lacked quality and precision we normally see from the Armenian star.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang — 7.5

Solid performance and continued his impressive goalscoring period since joining in January. Excellent instinct and showed his threat when arriving in the box.

Alexandre Lacazette — 6

Showed good strength at times against a good defensive performance. Played his part in the Arsenal’s team goal.

Arsenal in transfer battle with Atletico for Bernd Leno

Bernd Leno

At the age of 35 and soon to be 36, Petr Cech looks like he is on his way out from Arsenal very soon. With a mixed overall season and several painful mistakes, it is believed that the North London club are now searching for his replacement in the upcoming transfer window.

26-year-old Bernd Leno is a wanted man by several clubs across Europe with Napoli, Athletico Madrid and Arsenal all trying to sign the in-form German keeper.

In a recent statement, a representative of Leno’s ruled out Napoli as a transfer option saying: ‘I can confirm that there were negotiations with Naples, which we canceled. Naples is not an option,’ with this in mind the Mirror claim that it is now a two-horse race between Arsenal and Athletico Madrid to sign the keeper.

The Bayer Leverkusen keeper stands at 6’2 and is often hailed as one of the top goalkeepers currently playing in the Bundesliga. This season alone Leno has kept 10 clean sheets from 33 appearances. At 26 years old he is still relatively young for a goalkeeper who often develop much later in their career than a lot of outfield players.

According to the German outlet, Bild, Leno views Arsenal as an ‘ideal’ place for him to go. It is believed by several sources that Leno’s buy-out clause lies somewhere in the £20-£25m range but this number may rise given the increasing demand for his services.

As Arsenal continue their search for a new first team goalkeeper, other candidates such as the 25-year-old Athletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak, and Southampton’s 28-year-old Alex McCarthy are still on the table yet it seems that Leno is the most promising option as we draw closer to the transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether splashing the cash on a new first team goalkeeper is the right move, and some fans might are wondering what will be the future of David Ospina, who seemed like a bright spark on few occasions this season.

Arsenal expected to bid for Serbian prodigy Andrija Zivkovic

Andrija Zivkovic has rapidly been making a name for himself on the Domestic and International level and has reportedly been heavily scouted by Arsenal for the past season.

After trying to buy the young player in 2016, the club failed in its attempts, with the player eventually moving from Partizan to SL Benfica on a free transfer.

After joining the team and slowly becoming a regular starter, he scored one goal and grabbed 11 assists in 24 appearances last season and has 3 goals and 6 assists in 29 appearances this season.

Reports have been coming in that the youngster has a £52.5m release clause written into his contract and many close to him have concerns that Arsenal will not want to spend such a large sum on a very young player. In contrast to this, SportWitness reports that Arsenal will almost certainly be making a bid for the player when the transfer window opens.

The 21-year-old plays as a winger and is known for his startling bursts of pace down the right combined with a natural talent for getting past defenders and playing dangerous balls into the box.

At his first club, Partizan, the young Serbian became their youngest ever captain at the age of 17. On the international level, he broke another record for being the youngest ever Serbian to represent the country at the senior level, also at 17.

As a young player, it may be hard for Zivkovic to break into the Arsenal squad, especially considering the already bolstered attack with new signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, but already showing his potential, he may be a future star for the club.

The young prospect is familiar to premier league interest and over the past seasons has been scouted by both Manchester United and Liverpool.

This deal will depend a lot on who Arsenal’s new manager is and whether they will be happy to spend a very large chunk of their budget on a risky but exciting young player.
