€30m deal agreed, Medical planned: Arsenal to announce Torreira signing by Wednesday

Lucas Torreira

Arsenal’s pursuit of Lucas Torreira will be done and dusted by early next week, according to latest reports in the Express.

There are only a few minor details that need to be finalized and after that, the club can officially confirm the Uruguayan as a Gunner. The deal is expected to be announced before the country’s next match against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The player is currently with his National team at the World Cup in Russia, where he appeared as a substitute in their opening match.

The club have sent few staff members to Russia to accelerate the completion of the deal as there are a few sticking points. The primary objective is to get the medical of Torreira done during the World Cup.

A €30m deal between his club Sampdoria and Arsenal has been agreed for some time now. With personal terms out of the way, the only detail remaining is the medical and the announcement. It is understood that Torreira will be given permission by the Uruguay officials to complete his move.

Once the deal is announced it will become the second transfer to be confirmed by Arsenal after the signing of veteran Swiss full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner. Torreira will provide an immediate boost to the midfield and help relieve some of the pressure that is often felt by Granit Xhaka.

Signing him has not been an easy task as it was complicated by the interest of Napoli and Borussia Dortmund to a certain extent. But, the offer of the Gunners and the superior financial package that they put forth proved to be the clinching factor in getting Torreira to agree to a move to Arsenal.

The Uruguayan has the ability to break up play with his aggressive defending and he can also facilitate the attack as his passing range is very good. Bringing in a player like Torreira will make it interesting to see the way in which Unai Emery will use the services of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal fans will have an eye on the matches of Uruguay to see what their new midfielder will be able to bring to the table.

Arsenal open negotiations for CSKA midfielder Aleksandr Golovin

Predicted Arsenal Line-up

Arsenal are reportedly understood to be in the running to sign Russian’s poster boy Aleksandr Golovin this summer.

The CSKA midfielder has been monitored by the Gunners since the reign under former boss Arsene Wenger and Spanish broadcaster Cadena Ser claim that the North London club are still holding an interest and have begun negotiations.

According to the outlet, Juventus are have been in talks for a while but no deal has been sorted out yet with CSKA.

The Bianconeri are ready to pay €20m for the midfielder but CSKA are demanding €25m. However, the Gunners have now initiated contact and have intensified their efforts to sign him.

Golovin has done his growing reputation no harm with a couple of assists and a goal in the 5-0 rout of Saudi Arabia. Based on the World Cup opener, Golovin looked like a world-beater but it could be said that Saudi’s defence was in tatters for most of the game.

As such, the midfielder’s real value could be seen against the likes of Uruguay, who possessed one of the most impressive central defensive partnerships in Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez.

A year ago, Golovin may have been seen as a quality young player, who could strengthen the Gunners’ attack but at present, there is no urgency to strength the forward line.

In this case, the club may likely to pass on the signing of Golovin for a more defensive-minded player in Lucas Torreira, who should the much-needed steel in the centre of the park.

Caglar Soyuncu agrees deal to join Arsenal, tells Agent to complete transfer move

Caglar Soyuncu

Turkish central defender Caglar Soyuncu has agreed to join Arsenal and reportedly informed his agent of the decision, according to reports in Daily Star.

The Turkey international revealed last month that the Gunners are interested in signing him and his representative has since hinted that £35m deal is close to completion.

This will surely add some major quality to the Gunners defense. It is said that Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat is a huge fan of the player and wants to bring him to the Emirates.

It is no secret that the North London club are looking to shore up their defense. This season had many matches where the defenders did not match up to the standard that was required.

New manager Unai Emery has identified this as the area where he wants reinforcements to be made, especially with the retirement of Per Mertesacker and the long-term injury suffered by Laurent Koscielny.

The Gunners completed their first signing of the summer when they brought the Swiss full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and they have also reportedly completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund center back Sokratis as well. If Soyuncu does sign, he will become the third defensive player to be brought in.

Fans will be hoping that this overhaul will bear results on the pitch and the defense which has so often been criticized for being weak will show how strong they are.

The President of Altinordu, the former club of Soyuncu also hinted at the agreement between Arsenal and the player when he went on to say:

“Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal.”

“Of course we would make a cut from the transfer if he joins Arsenal.

“Arsenal asked us for data on his time at the club, we have put something together for them which will be handed over.”

This is a sign that the club are heading in the right direction as they are trying to address issues that exist in the squad and want to rectify them. Though this move may put the future of players such as Calum Chambers in doubt, signing Soyuncu will be a statement of sorts. All one can do now is wait for the deal to move ahead without any problems.

Official: Arsenal youngster Yassin Fortune signs for FC Sion

Arsenal Stadium

There are many youngsters that join Arsenal and try to make a name for themselves. Every year, we see someone join from another club or step up from the youth teams.

Yassin Fortune is one player who joined the club three years ago. At the time, he was a highly regarded prospect and expected to break into the team very soon. Alas, this has not been the case and he has now left the club.

During his stay at the Emirates, he did not make a single appearance for the Gunners. Though it must be mentioned that he did impress for the youth teams on occasion. The player has now joined Swiss club FC Sion, who have officially confirmed the transfer.

The player has signed a 4-year contract with the Swiss club and will don jersey number 25. It is not easy for a young player to make a mark at such a competitive level. There is so much competition for a few spots that you will have to be exceptional to be noticed.

A major reason for these young players such as Yassin joining Arsenal is their track record with youth. This was especially true during the Arsene Wenger era.

The Frenchman was well renowned for his ability to nurture youth into successful players and the likes of Cesc Fabregas are a testament to this.

The squad that Arsenal have at the moment is stacked with quality particularly in the attacking end of the pitch. The likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and even Alex Iwobi have established themselves.

This makes it very hard for someone like Yassin to break through. It is a little sad that the fans never really got a glimpse of the player’s talent.

It is understandable that he wanted to move elsewhere. After all, every player wants to play every match. This is the primary reason for the transfer of Yassin. He is expected to become an important member at his new club. Arsenal and the fans of the club will surely like to wish the player the best of luck.

Arsenal are closing in on Bernd Leno signing, claims Sky Sports journalist

Bernd Leno

It is looking very likely that new Arsenal manager Unai Emery will bring a new goalkeeper to the Emirates this summer.

Now, it is looking even more likely that Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno will be joining the North London club this summer.

The German international has been impressive in the Bundesliga and standing at 6’2, could be a brilliant addition to Arsenal’s squad.

Recently German outlet SportBild have claimed that a £22m deal has been reached between both clubs and it may only be a matter of time before an announcement is made.

Now Sky Sports reporter journalist Romano has also confirmed that Leno is getting closer to Arsenal and currently talks are ongoing.

Here is the tweet: “And also Leno is getting closer to Arsenal! Talks ongoing.”

https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1006669983223513089

The goalkeeper kept 12 clean sheets last season and the sporting director at Leverkusen has told German outlet Bild: “Leno can leave but only on our terms.

“We are still in constant and open exchange with Bernd and his manager.

“Leno already had a concrete offer from Napoli in 2017, but we didn’t have an equivalent backup at the time.

“He had to stay and he did really well last season, but we thought Bernd’s desire to leave would resurface and so with the arrival of Lukas Hradecky, we have a high-quality successor.”

With these strong words from the director, it looks like Leverkusen are ready to sell Leno if the right offer comes in. The deal looks to be worth around £22m.

If Bernd Leno joins Arsenal, he will have to be the first choice goalkeeper for the Emirates club, prompting a move for current starter Petr Cech.

The Daily Star reports that Cech is heavily linked with a move to Napoli this summer. The veteran keeper has had a mixed season for the Gunners, retaining a high quality for the majority of the season yet making some high profile errors leading to goals.

It is believed Emery wants a younger player in goal as opposed to 36-year-old Cech.

Jack Wilshere attracts interest from multiple clubs after social media hint

Jack Wilshere

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is reportedly attracting fresh interest from the likes of Galatasaray and Fenerbahce with his Gunners deal due to expire at the end of the month.

The England international has been in a contract standoff with the Gunners over the past year and he has yet to decide whether he would be staying at the club next term.

As such, he has already been linked with the likes of Everton, AC Milan and Juventus and Turkish Football now claims that there is further interest from the Super Lig.

Turkish champions Galatasaray and their rivals Fenerbahce have both been linked with Wilshere but the former are said to have a minor edge over their city counterparts.

Gala boss Fatih Terim had recently been spotted having a dinner with ex-Gunners manager Arsene Wenger and during this meeting, the 64-year-old is said to have taken some input regarding the midfielder.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce sporting director Damien Comolli is said to have also enquired with Wilshere’s representative regarding a switch but a decision has yet to be made over both offers.

As things stand, Wilshere has a contract offer on the table which has been heavily incentivised but he appears reluctant to extend his stay unless he is guaranteed regular game time. The £90,000-a-week midfielder dropped a major hint on social media recently, suggesting he might leave the club.

In this case, the Englishman may end his long-term association with the Gunners in the next fortnight with head of recruitment Sven Mislintat close to finalising a move for Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira.

Torreira is currently with the Uruguay national team at the World Cup but the Gunners are still confident of sealing a preliminary agreement with the Genoa-based club.

Arsenal target Caglar Soyuncu to decide on his future in few days

Caglar Soyuncu

Arsenal target and Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu will reportedly finalise his next move within the next few days, according to Turkish Football.

The Turkey international revealed last month that the Gunners are interested in signing him and his representative has since hinted that £35m deal is close to completion.

As per Turkish Football, the 22-year-old is presently on vacation in Ibiza but he is likely to reach a conclusion over his future following the conclusion of the Ramadan period.

It is added that the Gunners are likely to face competition from a few Premier League rivals with Manchester United and Liverpool said to hold an interest in the centre-back.

Arsenal have placed a general emphasis on bolstering the defensive side of their game this summer and they have already secured deals for both Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis, though the latter has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, an agreement to pursue midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria also appears close to completion and this could shown be followed by the signing of goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

Nonetheless, Emery is said to be operating on a limited pre-sales budget of just £50m and the arrivals will most likely be compensated with a few exits from the current squad.

Long-standing midfielder Jack Wilshere appears likelier by the day to leave on a free transfer and David Ospina could be next through the exit door to compensate for Leno’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium.

The position of defender Calum Chambers has also been questioned despite only signing a fresh deal last summer and he is supposedly a target for newcomers Fulham.

Arsenal to Manchester United: Alexis Sanchez’s end of term report

I remember discussing the impending transfer of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, in an atmosphere of deep, unimaginable gloom and there was even a feeling of impending doom.

My friends were somewhat devastated at the prospect of his departure. My own personal feeling was one of relief. The Sanchez saga had been the topic of conversation for two seasons and I suspect his diva-like behaviour had ended any possibility of mounting a serious challenge in the Premiership by eroding the team’s unity.

In his last season, he rarely dug in or made a significant contribution. He had begun to sulk and trudge up and down the pitch, like a grounded teenage girl, when a pass went astray or an opportunity was squandered.

Sanchez almost picked when he played that final term. He was guilty of barely ticking over during that period, clearly on standby, waiting for a huge offer from Arsenal that would never come.

His promise to Guardiola, that he would join City wasn’t worth a damn and when United came calling with a gullible Mourinho, keen to steal Guardiola’s thunder, Pep merely stepped aside, refusing to play by the Chileans rules.

Sanchez wanted a club to pay him what he believed he was worth, a final shot at the big time but he also wanted his considerable ego massaged in the process. Guardiola only massages his Wife, so Sanchez fell into the arms of the nimble-fingered Jose Mourinho.
The United Manager sensed he had put one over his great rival by securing the forwards signature.

He seemed quite pleased with himself, which isn’t unusual and opened a bottle of massage oil, normally reserved for the special occasions and press conferences when the managers head wouldn’t fit through the door.

Off Sanchez went for cash and cups and Arsenal briefly enjoyed a renaissance in form, it was all about football again and in particular, it was all about Arsenal. An expectant Old Trafford thought that the addition of Sanchez would surely put them back in terms with Manchester City. His form for Arsenal three years earlier was at the top end of the superstar bracket and he had managed to portray himself as a sparkling diamond in a bucket of mud.

Arsenal didn’t have the talent or desire to match the Chileans own ambitions and the move to United was perfect for both or so it seemed. Yet, football is a fickle mistress, who writes the ends to stories which we least expect.S he can ruin the seemingly perfect and smite anyone who feels they are better than the game in which they serve.

A handful of games into his United career and Arsenal fans could be forgiven for mocking their former star striker. Sanchez was like a size eight pair of shoes on a pair of size ten feet, constantly giving the ball away in key areas, unable to combine with his teammates the way he had at Arsenal and more worryingly, he seemed to lose his ability to find the net.

If Sanchez had being paid by the goal in that phase of his United career he may well have struggled to buy a loaf of bread. Coincidentally, United’s form dipped and the way in which they played was dissected by the media, leaving Mourinho to explain himself, something he truly hates doing. What had happened to the magical forward, it wasn’t jet lag, he’d only traveled to Manchester, he didn’t even need a vaccination but eight games into his new career and only one goal to his credit, something was clearly wrong.

You could often check out his latest statistics on SKYSPORTS where we learned that he had given the ball away thirty plus times in a single game, more than anyone else in the team. The yellow dots employed by the pundits to indicate his forays forward were slim pickings compared to the red ones during his Arsenal career, which we were shown minutes later. Sanchez had become the pundits favourite subject, the former players carcass to pick over after every game. His career was now defined by a series of underwhelming statistics and suitcase full of coloured stickers.

It wasn’t going to get any better all season, brief glimpses of the Sanchez magic did nothing to enhance United’s credentials. It was a campaign that will be remembered as a series of misfires, one where he struggled to replicate his Arsenal form in any shape or form. Of course, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that Sanchez finally fits into his role and the goals come fast and furious, but on the evidence of this season, the tally of 24 goals in the premier league for two consecutive seasons in 2016 – 2017 seems a long way off.

Incidentally, you won’t be surprised learn that my friends now have a different account of the Sanchez departure. Apparently, they were unconcerned and untroubled. Times move on, attitudes change and form fluctuates. Someone once said ‘form is temporary, class is permanent’ let’s hope that’s true of Sanchez or he may well regret leaving Arsenal and not joining Manchester City.

Confirmed: Arsenal officially announce Granit Xhaka contract extension, Unai Emery delighted

Granit Xhaka

It is no secret that the 2017/18 season was a very disappointing one for Arsenal as a lot of players did not live up to their potential and proved to be underwhelming.

Among those was Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka, as he started the season very badly but he gradually became better as the season went on and ended it by setting a Premier League record for most number of passes.

The Swiss midfielder is integral to the way the Gunners like to play and in fact, his impact is quite visible when he does not play.

Arsenal appear to be very slow and lethargic in their buildup play. The importance of Xhaka was underlined when the club announced that he had signed a contract extension. The club did not announce the length of the contract but revealed that it is a long-term contract.

The 25-year-old is one of the players that has caught the eye of new manager Unai Emery. The incoming manager believes that the midfielder’s skill will be beneficial to Arsenal. He went on to say:

“I’m delighted that Granit has extended his contract with us. He’s an important member of the squad and is still young so will be able to develop even more. I hope he has a successful World Cup with Switzerland and comes back fit and ready for the new season.”

Xhaka is one of the more misunderstood players at the club and a lot of Arsenal fans have a mixed opinion of him. But the confidence that Emery has in him should be an indicator of the regard he is held in at the club.

For the time being, fans can look forward to seeing him play at the World Cup. He is a pivotal member of the Switzerland team and he has a new club teammate at the national level as well.

Arsenal’s first signing this summer was Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner. It goes without saying that he knows Xhaka very well. Fans will be hoping that the full back’s experience will be a guiding force for Granit and he can reach newer heights in the upcoming season.

Medical staff arrive, Lucas Torreira to sign 5-year contract worth €3m-a-year

Lucas Torreira

Arsenal have reportedly sent a medical team to Russia to give Lucas Torreira his medical test before he joins the North London club.

The reports come from SampNews24, who report that the deal for the Uruguayan International is worth around €30m and will be completed shortly, bringing the midfielder to the Emirates on a 5-year arrangement.

The outlet is also reporting that the player’s contract will be worth an estimated £2.6m-a-year and it’s likely that the 22-year-old will be an Arsenal player by the end of the world cup.

Yesterday Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist who works with Sky Sports, the Guardian and Di Marzio, claimed the signing has already been completed.

When asked by a fan on Twitter about Torreira making the move to London, Romano said: “[Torreira] is done mate! But I don’t know when [it] will be announced.”

After several long transfer windows with Arsene Wenger, including several transfers made on the last night, the fans will be happy to see that under new manager Unai Emery transfers are happening very quickly.

Emery has already signed the experienced right back, Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus in his first deal since arriving at the Emirates and it is expected that the deals for Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund and Caglar Soyuncu from Freiburg will be announced soon.

Making 36 appearances for Sampdoria this season in the Serie A at 22 years old, Torreira has proved himself a brilliant all-rounder in midfield, making some important offensive contributions, grabbing 4 goals and creating 1 assist this season in the league alone, while also being important in defence, becoming known as a brilliant tackler.

Torreira looks like he could be a brilliant signing for Arsenal, being a perfect replacement for the recently departed Santi Cazorla, and being a wonderful replacement if Jack Wilshere does depart the club this summer.
