Willian actively looking to part ways with Arsenal, claims journalist

Willian

Willian has reportedly made up his mind on leaving Arsenal this summer, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners signed the 32-year-old last summer as a free agent. The winger got off to a brilliant start by assisting two times in the Premier League’s opening game of the season against Fulham. However, he has not been able to replicate that performance ever since, scoring only once in 25 league appearances for the Emirates club.

Speaking to the Here We Go podcast Fabrizio Romano stated that Willian is looking to part ways with Arsenal this summer and the Emirates club are also keen on selling their underperforming winger. He said:

“We have many questions from Arsenal fans but talking about Willian, the situation is basically the same. The player wants to leave. Willian wants to leave Arsenal and Arsenal are open to selling him this summer.”

The Brazilian international was given a whopping £220,000-a-week in salary by Mikel Arteta’s side. The Sun report also claims that the winger’s huge wage demand has become the stumbling block for the north London club in offloading the winger. MLS side Inter Miami showed interest in signing the attacker.

Arsenal Fever View:

Granting Willian a huge financial package was a bad decision. Despite producing great performances in the 19/20 season for Chelsea, it was quite obvious that at 31, the winger is not going to produce the same for much longer.

The Brazilian has completely lost his confidence since making the move to north London. He even showed unprofessionalism during the off-season as he appeared overweight in the pre-season training, gaining body fat in the abdominal area.

Mikel Arteta has shown inexperience in the transfer market so far. Apart from Willian, he bought Cedric Soares, Runnarson who are also complete failures for the Emirates club. The Spaniard is yet to bring in a new signing who contributed in a big way.

After failing to bring success at Arsenal with short fixes, Arteta has decided to sign young players with high potential. Following back-to-back eight placed finishes, the club management are showing intent in the transfer market by investing in the squad and this will create massive pressure to deliver next season. Another failed campaign will certainly put the Spanish boss’ future in jeopardy.
