Ireland legend Tony Cascarino believes that Eddie Nketiah is the best finisher at Arsenal and is capable of making a massive impact.
Nketiah rose through the ranks of the Gunners academy before making his senior debut for the club in 2017. He has amassed over 100 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 28 goals in the process. However, he never really cemented his spot as the club’s first-choice striker.
The 23-year-old had the option of leaving as a free agent last summer, but decided to stay. With the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, his game time was limited, and most of his appearances came off the bench this season.
The Englishman has recently found his golden touch, scoring in his last three games for the north Londoners. He scored in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over West Ham United last week, and also found himself on the scoresheet against Brighton on Saturday.
Cascarino thinks the Gunners will reinforce their squad depth in the January transfer window and believes Nketiah has done a brilliant job in filling the void left by Jesus’ injury. He has lauded the youngster as the best finisher at the club, who is capable of making a huge impact. While speaking to the Times, the 60-year-old said:
“Their squad depth is growing too. Gabriel Jesus’s injury was a blow but Eddie Nketiah is capable of making a massive impact and I think he is the best finisher at the club.
“Arsenal will strengthen in the January transfer window and have Jesus and Emile Smith Rowe to come back.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Gabriel Jesus has been an impressive signing for the Gunners this summer. His smooth combination with teammates and tenacity off the ball have made him an integral part of the club’s success this season.
It is to be noted that Jesus has failed to score a goal in his last 11 appearances. Nketiah offers a greater goal-scoring threat and is a more clinical finisher than the former Manchester City star.
The Hale End graduate has vastly improved his game in the last year. He is more than capable of deputizing until Jesus’ return. And, if he continues with the same form, Mikel Arteta will face a key selection dilemma.
