Romano reassures Arsenal fans about Martin Odegaard contract

Martin Odegaard

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Martin Odegaard does not have a buyback clause attached to Real Madrid in his Arsenal contract.

The Norwegian produced another scintillating performance on Saturday evening as the Gunners beat Brighton 4-2. They have now won their last five Premier League games, going seven points clear at the top of the table.

The north Londoners made a quick start to the game with Bukayo Saka, who opened the scoring in just 66 seconds. Later in the first-half, Odegaard doubled the advantage with a looping shot from the edge of the box.

It was Arsenal’s fourth goal that caught the eyes of the spectators. The captain played an inch-perfect pass from the middle of the park for Gabriel Martinelli, who made no mistake in poking it past Robert Sanchez. Although the home team did score a couple of goals, it turned out to be a comfortable outing for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Odegaard joined the Gunners on loan in January 2021 from Real Madrid and was subsequently signed on permanent basis in the summer for around €40million. There were rumors that the Spanish outfit had included a buyback clause for the midfielder in the deal, but Fabrizio Romano has dismissed them.

The Italian journalist praised the club’s director Edu Gaspar for managing to sign the 24-year-old for just €40million. He assured the fans there is no clause in his contract that could take him back to Bernabeu. He tweeted:

Arsenal Fever View:

The north Londoners have been in fantastic form this campaign, and Odegaard has played an integral part in the side’s success. He has already scored seven goals and registered five assists in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners have emerged as genuine title contenders. And if they continue to play in the same fashion, then 2023 could be the year Arsenal clinch the Premier League for the first time since the iconic invincibles era in 2004.

Arsenal will host third-placed Newcastle United on Tuesday night. It will be a tricky encounter for Arteta and his men. It will also provide them an opportunity to further cement their spot as league leaders.
