For Arsenal, this transfer window has not lived up to the hype of being the “biggest overhaul in the club’s history” as some have said.
It has not lived up to the “250 million pound war chest” either, but the Gunners have an opportunity to restore pride amongst a fractured and apathetic fan base by showing true intent and ambition if they can complete the signings of two highly-rated players in James Maddison and Lautaro Martinez.
It is definitely a long shot for the north Londoners to pull off both these signings, but if they somehow achieve the seemingly impossible, what a huge message that would send. Two major big-money signings like these would surely have the fan base optimistic and excited for the upcoming season.
It would show the club’s ambition and it would show fans that the club is finally turning the corner and headed back on an upwards trajectory. It would send shockwaves around the Premier League, putting clubs on notice that Arsenal intend to compete at the top with the other top clubs.
This is a big chance for the Kroenke’s to show that they want what’s best for the club and that they care about the fans. Both of these players are reportedly open to moving to the Emirates this season and the opportunity is there for the club to make a splash like never before.
It must be said that these two players would not fix all of the Gunners’ problems as they would still be light in midfield, also still in need of a right-back, and could probably use a new goalkeeper, preferably one who is comfortable with the ball at his feet.
However, adding these two players in attack would most likely give the Emirates club one of the best-attacking groups in the league. It feels like an opportunity that can’t be missed if the owners want to see this team competing where it belongs, amongst the top teams in the league.
If the Gunners can pull these two signings off, it would go a long way in restoring some of the respect that has been lost amongst the fan base and also rival clubs, who no longer give Arsenal the respect of a big club.
This is not just an opportunity to get two great players, but this is an opportunity to re-energise the fan base, to get the respect back on the Arsenal name, and to show intent to the fans and rivals that this club is on track to become great again.
Every fan knows that given Arsenal’s history in transfer windows, that the chances of this happening are slim to none, but if they can make it happen, it would be one of the biggest turning points in the club’s history. The chance is there for the taking, and it’s about time the club goes all out to return to the top.
