Mikel Arteta finally speaks out on bust-up between Dani Ceballos and Eddie Nketiah

Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta has admitted that he was shocked to see Dani Ceballos and Eddie Nketiah scuffle before the Fulham game, according to reports in Metro.

The North London club were dominant against Fulham and emerged 3-0 winners with goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel. Apart from the win, something that happened prior to the game also gained a lot of attention.

During the warm-up, both Nketiah and Ceballos squared up to each other and very nearly came to blows. They had to be separated by teammates and this was picked by the BT Sport cameras.

When asked about the incident after the Fulham game, Arteta refused to comment on it, claiming that he hasn’t seen the incident. But now, the Spaniard has broken his silence on the incident. Speaking ahead of the West Ham game, Arteta said(as per Metro):

“Well, I was surprised first of all because it isn’t a common thing to see at the start. To be fair, I didn’t like too much that image in public, but then I understood what happened and I understood how much both of them wanted to play and their level of frustration they were managing.

“I really liked the way things were resolved, though. First of all between them personally, and then publicly with that picture. It was the end of the story and now we can learn from that and move on.”

Ceballos and Nketiah were both on the bench but came on and helped the Emirates club control the game to win their first Premier League game of the season. As the season goes on, both will have a prominent role to play.

These sort of minor scuffles happen from time to time and if anything this shows that the players are being passionate. It would have been a tense moment for the fans to see their players scuffle but they would be happy that they made up after the game without showing any hard feelings.

Ceballos who came back from Real Madrid for another season on loan will most likely replace Mohamed Elneny on Saturday. Nketiah might not get the start but he will be looking to make an impact from the bench. Arteta will be hoping that his team can continue their good form and keep their winning run going.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang drops major hint on imminent Arsenal contract announcement

Aubameyang

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped another cryptic message on social media which hints that he might be on the verge of signing a new deal.

The 31-year-old has been sensational since joining the North London club back in 2018, scoring 72 goals. This season, the forward has continued his great form having scored two goals from two games as well as scoring the decisive penalty during Community Shield.

The Express are reporting that earlier this summer, the Gabonese forward was holding out for offers from other clubs including Barcelona. It further claims that cross city rivals Chelsea were keeping tabs on the contract situation of the striker.

However, it seems Aubameyang is now confident that the North Londoners are moving in the right direction under the leadership of manager Mikel Arteta. His latest social media has got Arsenal fans excited, as he tweeted a timer which might be a hint that new contract will be announced soon. Here is the tweet:

That contract is believed to be for a further three years and the Athletic journalist David Ornstein has also confirmed that an announcement is not far off.

There’s no doubt that Aubameyang is the club’s most important player at the moment and tying him down to a new deal is a great bit of business for everyone involved with the club. His importance can be underlined by the brace that he scored in the semifinal as well as the FA Cup final.

Arsenal fans will be happy that the club has managed to keep hold of their prized asset. It shows that the club means business and they are looking to kick on from the success that has been brought about by the FA Cup and Community Shield.

Now, Arteta can look forward to the new season in a much more relaxed manner having secured the future of the club’s talisman. The focus will now shift to the next Premier League game against West Ham and Aubameyang will be looking to continue his quest for a second Golden Boot. It is exciting times for Arsenal and the continued presence of their captain is a big reason for that.

Medical today, Arsenal closing in on a deal for keeper Runar Alex Runarsson

Runar Alex Runarsson

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal worth €2m to sign Icelandic goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson from French club Dijon, according to RMC journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.

The 25-year-old who joined the French side in 2018, has gone to make 36 appearances for them in Ligue 1. He has also consistently featured in the Icelandic National team having made his debut in 2017.

RMC journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi has revealed that the North London club have reached an agreement with Dijon to sign Runarsson, who will sign a five-year deal.

Bouhafsi also claimed that the medical will be done in two stages with the first part taking place at Dijon while the latter part will take place in Paris tomorrow. Here is the tweet:

Runarsson is set to join the Gunners as a backup for first choice keeper Bernd Leno after the departure of Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine left for Aston Villa in a deal worth £16m and Arsenal have turned their sights to the Dijon keeper.

One of the possible reasons for the club looking at Runarsson is the fact that goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana has already worked with him during his time at Danish club FC Nordsjælland.

So, Cana will have an in-depth knowledge on his abilities. The other options for the Gunners to replace Martinez were Matt Macey and Dejan Iliev.

These two players are not as experienced as Runarsson which is another factor that plays into his favor. Having spent time in Denmark and France, Runarsson has significant experience when compared to the young duo.

Arsenal will be happy that they managed to get a backup keeper for a small fee keeping a large portion of the Martinez transfer fee intact for other possible moves. Runarsson will become the number two keeper at the Emirates but should get decent game-time this season owing to the schedule.

After a comfortable 3-0 win against Fulham, the Gunners will take on West Ham United next and Mikel Arteta will want to keep the club’s winning streak going. The Spanish boss will also keep an eye on the transfer market with Thomas Partey and Aouar heavily linked with a move.

Aubameyang’s new contract: Mikel Arteta and Arsenal legacy were the key factors

Aubameyang

Aubameyang’s intention during negotiations was never to leave. His intention now is to captain the club to further levels of success, to win more silverware and to grab Thierry Henry’s considerable goal-scoring record.

Perhaps Aubameyang has taken note from the experience of others such as Henry himself, who went to Barcelona to win trophies but never achieved the adoration he achieved at Arsenal. When asked about Aubameyang staying, Henry said this a couple of months back:

“How can I tell him to stay when I left”

That comment suggests that there is a part of Henry that regrets the decision as much as Wenger and the Arsenal fans. There is a rather long list of star players that have left the Gunners but failed to enjoy that level of success again, trophies yes, but not that feeling of happiness, contentment and family that they were afforded at the club.

Leaving Arsenal has proved to be a painful divorce for many and the fond memories of what was becomes ever stronger once the door has finally closed. Aubameyang is one of those players that thrives on support at a managerial and coaching level. Someone who excels in the right environment if he is convinced by the direction that the team are heading in and he’s an individual that can make things happen.

He came to Arsenal perhaps as a stop gap to get away from his Dortmund dilemma and probably thought that he could put himself in the shop window for a much bigger move further down the line. However, after a few seasons he realized that he had found his Utopia, even when things were going wrong under Emery.

At that point he must have been tempted to run down his contract and exchange the chaos of the Emirates for his dream move to Barcelona. Then along came Mikel Arteta, a kindred spirit and enthusiastic coach, who connected with his player on both a professional and personal level, from that point the extension was never really in doubt.

Look back at the exchanges between the pair after winning the FA cup and Community Shield and you see two motivated, respectful figures that share the same passion and philosophy.

I’m personally convinced that had Arteta not arrived when he did we could well be waving goodbye to Aubameyang. This deal was never completely about the money, this was about belonging, feeling appreciated and respected.

They said when he arrived that the striker could prove difficult after his spat with his former club but his behaviour and professionalism has been exemplary. Arteta can now concentrate on his other key targets and prioritise the Arsenal midfield which needs an injection of quality.

With Aubameyang in the bag, it signals the beginning of a new era. One that could potentially bring more success but more importantly restore the North London club to a position where they can be considered as difficult and determined competitors. Willian said Arteta plans to win the Champions league in three seasons and it’s hard to disagree.

Arteta appears to have the persuasive powers of a hypnotist in securing the services of Saka, Willian, Gabriel and now Aubameyang. He has done so much to change Arsenal’s DNA in such a short space of time that anything seems possible.

Lyon sporting director offers update on Arsenal’s move for Houssem Aouar

Houssem Aouar

Lyon Sporting director Juninho has provided the latest update on Arsenal’s interest in Houssem Aouar, according to French outlet Telefoot Chaine(via Daily Star).

The 22-year-old who is a product of the Lyon youth academy has regularly featured for their first team since 2017. He played a major part in the French club’s success last season, as they reached the Champions League semifinals.

The North London club have been actively pursuing the midfielder and reportedly launched a cash plus player bid which included Matteo Guendouzi but that offer was rejected by the French side.

Lyon director Juninho confirmed to Telefoot Chaine that the Emirates club have held discussions over a deal for Aouar but the French club have backed out of talks as they were not keen on having Guendouzi included in the deal. He further added that they have not received any further bids for the midfielder.

We have not received anything for Houssem, we have not received anything for Memphis.“, said Juninho.

“I get on very well with Edu, we spoke on the phone. Aouar is really appreciated by Mikel Arteta. Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile.”

“We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”

Based on the comments, it seems Arsenal haven’t gone back with an improved offer but there is still time left in the transfer window and with the sale of players such as Emiliano Martinez who joined Aston Villa and potentially others, there will be funds available for the club to launch another bid.

It is clear that Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Aouar and his displays in the Champions League last season showed his true quality. It would be quite a coup for the North Londoners if they can pull off this signing.

Arsenal have started the season very well and could further benefit with the addition of Aouar. The objective will be to get back into the Champions League and for that to happen, there is a need to strengthen the squad further.

The next couple of weeks are going to be crucial and it remains to be seen if the club can pull of some surprises in terms of transfers.

Arsenal reach agreement to Lucas Torreira that could find deal for Thomas Partey

Lucas Torreira

Arsenal have agreed on a deal to sell Lucas Torreira to Italian side Torino, according to reports in Italian publication CalcioMercato.

The Uruguayan midfielder joined the North London club in the summer of 2018 from Sampdoria and was a regular starter for the first team squad until Mikel Arteta took over. He has struggled for minutes since and might be on his way out.

The report in CalcioMercato states that Arsenal have accepted a bid worth £24m from Torino for Lucas Torreira. There are only a few minor agreements left to be sorted out before the midfielder will board the flight to Italy. Roma were also interested in his signature but ultimately lost out to their Serie A counterparts.

Express are reporting that the North Londoners could use proceeds of the sale to fund a transfer move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey who has a release clause worth £45m.

Torreira began last season in good form but suffered an injury in an FA Cup game at Portsmouth. Though he was able to recover in time for the restart, he did not play much for the Gunners.

One reason for this was the form shown by the midfield duo of Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos. The duo were the preferred choice in the center of the pitch for manager Mikel Arteta. As a result of this, chances for the 24-year-old midfield dynamo were few and far between.

Losing out on the midfielder is a price worth paying if it means that other targets can be pursued. He has been a dependable player whenever called upon and has had some great moments including his goal in a 4-2 win vs Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham.

Fans will be excited to see where these potential funds are going to be used and if the club can manage to bring in some exceptional talent, it will make them very happy.

Arsenal have started the season on a strong note having already won the Community Shield and followed it up with an inspiring performance against Fulham. With the transfer window closing in a couple of weeks, the North London club will have to strengthen the squad further if they are to make a run for the Champions League places.

Dani Ceballos sends message to fans after bust-up with Eddie Nketiah

Dani Ceballos

Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos took to social media to confirm that there was no rift between him and team-mate Eddie Nketiah.

The North London club took on Fulham in the Premier League season opener and emerged 3-0 winners with goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

During the warm-up, midfielder Dani Ceballos flew into a tackle when Nketiah had the ball. After this, the duo squared up to each other and had to be separated by their teammates. This was caught by BT Sport cameras, here is the video:

Both players came off the bench against Fulham and after the game ended, Ceballos posted a picture of him and Nketiah with the forward giving a thumbs up gesture and that put any doubts of a fight between them to rest. The caption for the photo read:

“No problems here. My brother @eddienketiah”

It is important from the squad’s point of view that Ceballos had posted this message or else it could have led to rumors of a real problem between the two. These incidents can happen during warm-up or training and they are part and parcel of the game.

While both players came on as a substitute, they helped the Gunners control the game and ensure that they came away with the three points. They will have a more prominent role to play as the season goes on, so manager Mikel Arteta will be happy to see them publicly bury the hatchet.

The North Londoners can now focus on their next game which will be against West Ham United in the Premier League . It was important to get off on the right foot and a 3-0 win does just that and will give the players including Ceballos and Nketiah some confidence.

Ceballos and Nketiah were an integral part of the squad which triumphed in the FA Cup. Arteta would have been impressed by the team’s performance and the maturity that these two players exhibited.

Sky Sports claim Arsenal have agreed on a £16m transfer deal for Martinez

Emiliano Martinez

Arsenal have reportedly accepted a £16m bid from Aston Villa for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, according to reports in Sky Sports.

The 28-year-old joined the North London club back in 2012 and is currently the club’s longest serving player. He still has two years left on his current contract but is looking for more game time.

Last season, an injury to Bernd Leno saw him get an extended run in the team and the keeper put in a string of impressive performances helping the Gunners to FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs.

The Argentine was left out of the Arsenal matchday squad for their Premier League season-opener against Fulham on Saturday and it seems the keeper is on his way out of the club.

Sky Sports claim that Arsenal have accepted a £16m offer from Villa for Martinez and the fee can potentially rise up to £20m with add-ons. The goalkeeper will undergo a medical this weekend at Villa Park and will also use this visit to discuss personal terms with the Premier League club before completing a transfer.

During his time in London, the 28-year-old has spent many seasons on loan including spells in England as well as a stint in Spain. His performances last season allowed him to show what he is capable of. The injury to first choice keeper Leno meant that the onus was on Martinez to safeguard the Arsenal defense.

And to the player’s credit, he was commanding and decisive and ensured that the Emirates club did not miss Leno one bit. He also played a crucial role in helping the club finish off the season with some silverware as he popped up with some important saves in the semifinal and final against Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

By making a move up north to Villa, Martinez should get an opportunity to play more first team football which might not be the case if he was to remain at the Emirates. He has two years remaining in his contract, and this would be the best possible time to cash in on him.

The Gunners are losing out on a talented keeper but now they can use the funds to focus on other potential signings. Martinez can leave with his head held high and now focus on his next adventure.

Arsenal to launch improved bid for Houssem Aouar

Arsenal Stadium

Arsenal are reportedly ready to approach French club Lyon with a new and improved bid for midfielder Houssem Aouar, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano(via Mirror).

Aouar played a key role in helping the French club reach the semifinals of the Champions League last season where they lost to eventual champions Bayern Munich. The midfielder played 41 games throughout the season and contributed nine goals.

According to Fabrizio Romano(via Mirror), the North London club are in talks with the representatives of the 22-year-old and are preparing a new offer. The report further states that Lyon will not accept anything less than £54.5m for the young midfielder who is under contract with them for three more years.

ESPN recently claimed that the Gunners first bid of £31.2m was rejected by Lyon. Romano also tweeted saying that Lyon were not willing to entertain Matteo Guendouzi in a cash plus swap deal as part of the negotiation for Aouar.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly a fan of the player and his performances in the Champions League show why the Spanish boss is so keen on the midfielder. He will bring some much needed creativity to the team and will considerably improve the midfield.

But in order to finance this deal, the Emirates club will have come up with the necessary cash which is not going to be easy. The club have a made a good start to the season as they have brought in talented young center back Gabriel from Lille and along with him, the club has also signed Willian on a free from Chelsea as well as bringing back Dani Ceballos in a loan deal.

If the North Londoners are able to bring in Aouar, it will give the team an extra boost that will make it easier to compete with the top clubs. They need to get back to the Champions League and one way of doing that is by bringing in quality players such as the Frenchman.

Apart from this, this deal will show that the Arsenal board are willing to back Arteta and give him the players that he wants with which he can further the team’s success.

David Ornstein reveals crucial update on Aubameyang’s new Arsenal contract

Aubameyang

Reliable journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sign a new three-year contract with Arsenal.

The 31-year-old who joined the North London club in January 2018 has become the team’s primary goal scoring threat having scored 71 goals so far. Since being made the captain, Aubameyang has gone on to lead the club to an FA Cup and Community Shield.

The Gabonese striker’s contract was set to end in June 2021 and there were many question marks on whether the forward will commit to a new deal. However putting an end to speculation, David Ornstein has claimed that Aubameyang will put pen-to-paper on a three-year extension imminently.

In an exclusive report for The Athletic, the popular journalist also revealed that the new deal will make Aubameyang the club’s highest paid player. It further claims that Mikel Arteta played a key role in convincing the star striker to commit his future to the Gunners.

Aubameyang has been the Gunners’ top scorer in the last two seasons and his goal-scoring record makes for great reading. He has managed to rack up 71 goals in just 110 games which goes to show his remarkable consistency.

The Gabonese star played an integral role in the club’s record breaking 14th FA Cup win scoring a brace in both the semifinal and final of the tournament. He was made the captain in November and the added responsibility has not affected his form.

Though he plays on the left wing most of the time under Arteta, he has continued to show how lethal he is in front of goal. It is also vitally important for the club to ensure that they didn’t let the captain go. Tying him down to a new contract shows that Arsenal mean business and that they are looking to build on the success brought by the FA Cup and Community Shield.

Arsenal start their season at Craven Cottage and they will be looking for their captain to pick up from where he left off. If he gets the required service, there’s no reason why he won’t be able to win another Premier League Golden Boot and propel the Gunners back into the Champions League spots.
