This £40m rated left winger could be a key signing for Arsenal this summer

Having signed Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Dortmund and Leno Bernd from Bayer Leverkusen, Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus and looking increasingly likely to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, if there is still one area Arsenal needs to bolster, it is the left wing position.

The Gunners lack a real left wing forward having sold Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United and it affected them in the number of goals they scored they scored last season.

Of course, Aubameyang can play in that role and did actually play in it for some games last season but he is wasted in that position. He is better off top striking.

Although Arsenal also have Iwobi and Welbeck who can play in that position neither of them is good enough for a side that wants to compete in the top four.

I personally was hoping Welbeck will play well at the World Cup in order to increase his market value and fetch Arsenal at least £25 million that can be spent elsewhere.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t played much for England so far but he is still able to command a fee in the region of £20 million especially if the Three Lions eventually win the Cup. Arsenal in my opinion simply have to sell some players and that includes Welbeck in other to bring in a proper winger to the team.

Going into next season without having signed another winger(unless Emery intends to sign another striker and play Aubameyang as the left winger) will be suicidal.

The likes Of Lucas Perez, the aforementioned Welbeck, Elneny, Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom could be sold to fetch Arsenal some money that can be spent on a left winger. And Arsenal may actually not look too far for a classy left winger should they really want to sign one.

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial reportedly wants out of Old trafford and the sale of Sanchez to the Red devils last season and the exit of Wenger could well make doing a deal with the Red half of Manchester possible now.

Ever since the news of Martial wanting to leave Old Trafford broke, he has been often talked about by Arsenal and United fans on twitter. The Transfer Hound’s hot-o-meter ranks him as the third most talked about player in relation to a transfer on Twitter right now. Most United fans would hate to see him go while Arsenal fans certainly won’t mind him at theirs.

Martial is certainly not a bad player and will be a massive upgrade on what we currently have. He merely needs a move to a club like Arsenal who appreciate attacking talents like himself. The Frenchman has been one of the most talked about player on twitter since the news broke that he could be leaving Old Trafford and it is a testament to how highly rated he is among both Arsenal and United fans.

He may not be doing well under Mourinho but everyone agrees that’s because he hasn’t been trusted under Mourinho. A bid of £40 million which Arsenal can easily raise from player sales could well be enough for Arsenal to sign the former AS Monaco star.

Lucas Torreira flying to London for Arsenal medical ahead of £26m move

Just a few days before the start of the World Cup news broke that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Sampdoria to sign highly rated defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira from the Serie A club side.

Napoli were also said to be interested but the Gunners moved quickly, agreed to pay more than his reported release clause.

Although the deal was agreed between the two clubs, the North London club decided to wait till Torreira finished his assignment with the national team at the World Cup.

This lead to some anxiety among Arsenal fans(myself included) who feared the deal may be hijacked by other clubs if Arsenal do not move quickly. Now it appears the wait is over. This is as various reports from South America today seems to be confirming the player is on his way to London to undergo a medical with Arsenal.

The player is now on his way to England to undergo a medical with Arsenal. This was confirmed by an Uruguayan journalist. Here is the tweet:

The tweet translated to: “The midfielder Torreita travels to Moscow and then to London to perform the medical examination with arsenal and sign his contract. Halfway through the week, he returns to Uruguay.”

Only yesterday BBC journalist David Ornstein confirmed the player is on the verge of signing for Arsenal after the Gunners reportedly reach an agreement with his current club Sampdoria.

The Mirror reported recently that a £26m fee has already been agreed with Sampdoria and a four-year contract has also been settled.

In the three World Cup matches where he started, he has impressed a lot with his ball-winning ability as well as the way he can pick out a pass. From the looks of it, he will fit right into the Arsenal team as a midfield trio of Xhaka, Torreira and Ramsey is a frightening prospect.

Now, all that remains is for the move to be made official and for the player to arrive in London. Based on his performances at the World Cup, it is safe to say that Arsenal fans will have high hopes for Torreira. And with the way the new set up is working, everything seems to be in place for him to be a success.

Arsenal reach agreement for the transfer of David Ospina

David Ospina

Having signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, it will be interesting to see who will be Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper next season.

It is doubtful the German will be coming to sit on the Bench and Petr Cech will certainly not want to relish handing over his starting spot to the young German. Neither would David Ospina want to become the third choice.

One of Cech and Ospina will certainly have to leave the club as it is doubtful that Arsenal will keep all the of them at the club. In fact, it is not advisable.

It is near impossible to keep three top class keepers happy at a club. Hence it is not a surprise that both Cech and Ospina have been linked with moves away from the club.

Cech was first linked with a move to Napoli but that seems dead now. But new reports have emerged claiming that David Ospina could be on his way out of the club. According to the latest reports, Arsenal and Boca juniors have reached an agreement that will see Ospina sign for the South American club if he can agree on personal terms with them.

This much is being reported by South America media outlet in El Dia who reckons an agreement was reached in the last few hours between Arsenal and Boca juniors.

The report in El Dia reads thus, “The leadership of Boca has reached in the last hours an agreement with his peers of the Arsenal of England for the pass of Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina. While in Argentina they give almost the loan to the entity of La Ribera, from England they remain hermetic, beyond that the Arsenal has just hired the goalkeeper Bernd Leno.” (As translated by Google)

The deal according to the report will be a loan deal. What remains to be seen is if Ospina will be open to such a move or whether he will prefer to remain in Europe.

Whatever the case may be, Arsenal must get rid of one of Cech and Ospina and promote Martinez to the first team as the third choice.

Sky Sports: Arsenal are already in talks to agree Steven N’Zonzi transfer

Steven N'Zonzi

It is no secret that Arsenal are in the market trying to bring in players even after they have brought in three so far.

And now that they have managed to bring in players for the defense, the focus is now on the midfield. Apart from Lucas Torreira, the other midfielder that the Gunners are targeting is Steven N’Zonzi of Sevilla, according to reports in Sky Sports.

The Frenchman spent a season under the current Arsenal boss Unai Emery and it is said that he is keen to reunite with him. The only factor that is preventing a deal from happening is the fee that the Gunners are willing to pay.

There is a difference between what Sevilla want and what Arsenal are offering at the moment. The fact that N’Zonzi wants to join the club indicates that the fee can be negotiated to something a little less than what the Spanish club are after. The midfielder has a release clause of £35m.

With the departures of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, the Gunners are a light in the midfield area and it is clear that Emery and Head Of Recruitment Sven Mislintat, want to rectify this situation. Given what used to happen during the Arsene Wenger era, it is a nice change of pace to see Arsenal target players who are slightly older than usual.

N’Zonzi is part of the French team that has reached the semi finals of the World Cup. He has been able to help solidify the team whenever he has come off the bench. So, if a deal is to be completed, it will be done after the World Cup.

The main objective for Arsenal is to get back into the Champions League and for that, they require quality players in every position.

With the signings that they have made so far, they are moving in the right direction and getting the Frenchman will further help in that endeavor. Perhaps the fact that Emery has already worked with N’Zonzi will work in Arsenal’s favor and help bring him to the Emirates.

Arsenal ready to bid for M’Baye Niang after intense scouting

M'Baye Niang

If I was Danny Welbeck, I will be critically considering leaving Arsenal this summer. The former Manchester United star needs a new start elsewhere and in my opinion, he should be considering leaving the club for a mid-table team where he will play week in week out.

Having signed Aubameyang last winner, Welbeck’s chance for regular playing time is further reduced. And according to reports, Arsenal may be signing another striker this summer which could further reduce the Englishman’s already limited game time.

According to a report from Italy(as re-reported by Mirror) long term Arsenal target M’Baye Niang who currently plays for Torino in Italy has caught the eye of Arsenal’s scouts who are convincing Unai Emery to make a move for the former AC Milan striker.

Watford is also said to be interested in the player but if the report of Arsenal’s interest is true, the Gunners will have a better chance of signing the Senegalese than the Hornets.

M’Baye Niang was a key player for Senegal at the world cup. He scored one goal and assisted one other goal in the three matches he played. He has also been linked with Monaco, Marseille and Nice but none of these sides are more attractive than Arsenal. If truly Arsenal are interested and are ready to pay what Torino wants, they are surely going to sign him but do they really need him?

Is he even an upgrade on Welbeck? If you ask me, I will say he is not an upgrade on Welbeck and Arsenal should instead give Nketiah a chance with the first team if they are not ready to spend big on a striker. I don’t know what the scouts have seen in the Senegalese but I have watched him with Milan, Senegal and in some Torino games he is to me not a player of Arsenal’s quality.

This doesn’t mean Welbeck should be retained, the Englishman should be sold but an upgrade on him should be brought him or Arsenal should stick with Eddie Nketiah. M’Baye Niang will cost at least £15 million which to me will be a waste as M’Baye Niang is in my opinion just more experienced than Nketiah, not necessarily better than him.

If I was Emery, I will be aiming to get rid of Welbeck, Perez, Chuba, Elneny with the aim of raising money to sign a proper left winger. And retain Nketiah in the team for the cup games or send him on loan to an EPL club.

“It is true”, Lucas Torreira finally breaks silence on Arsenal transfer

The World Cup campaign for Uruguay ended in heartbreak for Lucas Torreira as his team crashed out at the quarter-final stage.

They lost 2-0 to a French team that had a little more cutting edge than the South American side. After the game, the player appeared to confirm that the deal to bring him to Arsenal is going to be completed soon.

When asked if the Gunners wanted to do his medical during the World Cup, this is what he had to say:

Q: Is it true that Arsenal wanted to do the medical tests during the World Cup and you decided against it?

A: Yes, it is true. I didn’t want to think of anything other than the national team. Now that I have time, my future will be clear soon.

BBC journalist David Ornstein has also confirmed that the North London club have agreed on a deal to sign Torriera. The Mirror reported recently that a £26m fee has already been agreed and a four-year contract has also been settled.

It is reassuring to know that Arsenal sealed the deal before the World Cup as the value of Torreira is sure to have shot up after the tournament. The midfielder started the last three games for his country and was very impressive in all of them.

Here is the video:

A few days ago, the father of Torreira was interviewed regarding a move to London and he had some interesting observations to make. He spoke about the challenges of going to a new country:

‘There will be people that will accompany him,’ Ricardo told Teledoce via Goal.  ‘He won’t be alone. It’s a big change [going to England] and we don’t want to think about it yet because we’re scared.’

‘The truth is it’s tough to manage the language, adapt to the [London] society and customs and at the same time not lose ours,’ he added. ‘But there’s a whole programme getting readied for Lucas.’

The announcement from Arsenal is expected to arrive next week as the player will travel to Uruguay first. The fans will feel very excited that they are going to see Torreira wear the Arsenal shirt. He promises to be an effective player that will help the club reach greater heights.

David Ospina on the verge of Arsenal exit

David Ospina

Arsenal have gone about their transfer business in a very quick and efficient manner. They have added two defenders and a goalkeeper and further signings are expected to arrive as well.

As a result of the Gunners signing Bernd Leno to take over from Petr Cech, this has seen David Ospina looking for a move elsewhere and that interest is coming from Turkey, according to reports in A Spor.

The Colombian played for his country at the World Cup where he was unable to keep England from winning their first-ever penalty shootout.

The Turkish club Fenerbahce are keen on bringing the keeper to their club and they believe that they will be able to convince the player. The report states that keeper is close to a three-year deal with the Yellow Canaries and the transfer is expected to be finalised next week.

They have been after Ospina for a couple of years now and they are confident that they can finally land their man. The Colombian was never the first choice for Arsenal in the League but he has featured more prominently in European competitions for the Gunners.

It is difficult to see him get playing time, especially after Leno has been brought in so it makes sense that he wants to move. There has been some interest from Boca Juniors but the keeper prefers to move to the Turkish side. And also, it seems that Arsenal are keen on moving the player as well. This will help free up the wages and also add to the transfer budget.

The Gunners are almost done with their activity in the transfer market but an outgoing such as this can lead to changes in their plans. Fenerbahce have also been keen on other Arsenal players such as Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck.

Arsenal will not be missing a lot if Ospina was to leave the club as he has only impressed here and there. He has not been consistent enough to command a regular place in the first team. This has led to him being used as more of a backup during his time at the club. If a transfer is to happen, it is expected to be wrapped up by the end of next week.

David Ornstein: Lucas Torreira’s Arsenal medical next week

After the quarter-final match between Uruguay and France got over, there was only one thing on the minds of those related to Arsenal.

That would be realization that the club could finally complete the signing of Lucas Torreira. This was confirmed by respected BBC journalist David Ornstein, who had the following to say:

Ornstein is known for being very reliable when it comes to Arsenal news so this is a welcome sign for everyone involved. Torreira was once again impressive for a Uruguay side that was unable to beat France.

It is thought that the deal will be completed next week and that Arsenal will be finally able to show Torreira as a Gunner. The good news for fans is that the deal was done before the World Cup or else the Gunners would have had to pay a lot more, based on the performances of the midfielder.

Torreira is coming off the back of a very impressive campaign for his club Sampdoria and it is no surprise that he has attracted a lot of attention. Arsenal are getting a player who is full of potential and they will hope that he will be able to showcase his talents at the Emirates.

New manager Unai Emery plans to do some restructuring to the squad and that is already underway with the signings that the club has made. When the deal is made official, Torreira will become the fourth player to join the Gunners in the summer transfer window.

Fans have been waiting to see the day when Torreira becomes an Arsenal player and they may not have to wait much longer.

The new season is exciting given the change of manager and to add to this, the players that have been brought in, add to the excitement factor.

Arsenal to complete fourth summer signing next week

Lucas Torreira

Arsenal and their pursuit of Lucas Torreira has been public for quite some time now and after the exit of Uruguay from the World Cup, the transfer is expected to be completed by next week, according to reports in Express.

The club was waiting for the participation of Uruguay to get over before confirming the deal. The Mirror reported recently that a £26m fee has already been agreed with Sampdoria and a four-year contract has also been settled.

Uruguay lost 2-0 to France in the quarter finals and as a result have been knocked out of the competition. Arsenal did not want to affect Torreira during the World Cup and decided not to do any sort of announcement until their run was over.

The player’s father has also been talking about the move and how it would affect the Uruguayan. This is what he had to say:

‘There will be people that will accompany him,’ Ricardo told Teledoce via Goal.  ‘He won’t be alone. It’s a big change [going to England] and we don’t want to think about it yet because we’re scared.’

‘The truth is it’s tough to manage the language, adapt to the [London] society and customs and at the same time not lose ours,’ he added. ‘But there’s a whole programme getting readied for Lucas.’

It is nice to see the Gunners be supportive of Torreira and his involvement with the national team. The player did not start the first two matches but after that, he has started every match that Uruguay has played.

In the three matches where he started, he has impressed a lot with his ball winning ability as well as the way he can pick out a pass.

Serie A giants considering move for Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi

mustafi

Serie A holders Juventus are reportedly keen on pursuing the signature of Shkodran Mustafi from Arsenal, a report from Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness claims.

The Germany international was recruited by the Gunners from Valencia in the summer of 2016 for £35m but he has since failed to live up to his expectations with inconsistent performances at the back.

Mustafi had been linked with a potential move to Inter Milan last summer which never materialised but reports now suggest that he could be offered a return to the Serie A with the Bianconeri.

As per Corriere dello Sport, Mustafi has been earmarked as an alternative to Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng to bolster Juventus’ backline this summer. It is added that the Gunners could accept a significant loss on the German with a sum of around £17.7m likely to urge them to do business.

Mustafi’s future at the Emirates has come under question on a regular basis over the past year and the recent contract extension to Calum Chambers may suggest that the Englishman could emerge as the first-choice centre-back alongside summer signing Sokratis.

Meanwhile, Evening Standard has suggested that head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has his doubts over the qualities of Mustafi and the pre-season may presumably define whether he fits the scheme of things under Emery.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Freiburg’s Caglar Soyuncu earlier in the transfer window but talks over a potential deal appear to have stalled with no update from the player’s representative of late.
