Arsenal travel to Chelsea this Sunday in a hugely important London derby that can have an impact on the title race, so let’s take a look at the latest team news.
The Gunners by virtue of getting a win over Zurich were able to directly qualify for the Round of 16 in the Europa League. But this will be a significantly tougher game to play as the Blues have a host of talented players especially in attack.
One player who is a doubt for this game is Takehiro Tomiyasu who had to be substituted against Zurich and it is likely that the Japan international misses out. Matt Turner has returned to training but is unlikely to get a start while Emile Smith Rowe is still out for a long time.
Alex Zinchenko was also seen in training and there is a chance that he could start the game, so it will be interesting to see who Mikel Arteta will choose for the left back role. The return of Bukayo Saka after being substituted against Nottingham Forest is a huge boost for the team.
Arsenal Fever View:
The north Londoners have fared better against their local rivals in the recent past but they should not take anything for granted. Chelsea under Graham Potter have started to show real signs of improvement and cannot be taken lightly.
Despite the hosts having a lot of players missing through injury, they have plenty of options to play around with. And the familiar face of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang awaits the visitors and Arteta will be well aware of what the striker can do.
The Gunners need to ensure they start the match with a lot of intensity, as that can make the difference. Attacking through the wings with the likes of Saka and Martinelli can break the home defence.
Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League but with Manchester City breathing down their necks, it will only get tougher from here on. Getting the better of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is never going to be easy despite what recent form might suggest. Arteta will be hoping that his players show confidence and express themselves to secure the three points.
