Arsenal have reportedly submitted a €55million plus Lucas Torreira bid for Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic, according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The 21-year-old signed a five-year deal with Fiorentina in 2018 and has amassed over 100 appearances for the club. He has been in excellent form this season, scoring 16 goals in just 19 league appearances while also making his debut for the Serbian national team in 2020.
Torreira is having a successful loan stint at Fiorentina, and the club could be interested in making the move permanent. And with the Gunners interested in signing the Serbian star, a swap deal plus cash looks to be the likely option.
As per reports in Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Italian outfit had demanded €70million for Vlahovic, despite the fact that the striker only has 18 months left on his current contract. Arsenal have now matched their demands, having tabled an offer of €55million and the remaining amount will include the sale of Torreira who is valued at around €15million by the Emirates club.
The report further claims that Fiorentina were skeptical of the sale given that it could hamper their chances of securing a top-four spot in the Seria A. However, the north Londoners’ latest offer is being seriously considered by the club’s hierarchy. Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid are the other clubs in the race for the Serbian marksman.
Arsenal Fever View:
Mikel Arteta is in pursuit of a new striker after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy and completely frozen out from the squad. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are also out of contracts in the summer and there has been no progress in renewal talks.
Vlahovic has an impressive physical stature that helps him keep possession of the ball under pressure. He is a constant aerial threat during set pieces and a target man for the wide players. The striker’s goal tally shows his efficiency in front of the goal. He rarely misses an opportunity to get on the scoresheet. His overall play makes him a perfect fit for Arteta’s philosophy.
The Spaniard has been backed financially by the club. The team have made significant progress in recent weeks and, perhaps, an explosive player like Vlahovic can push them closer towards their aim of securing Champions League football next season.
