Arsenal are closing in on a transfer move for Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak

As per a report from Catalan outlet El Nacional, Arsenal are close to signing Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.

The 22-year-old who joined the Spanish club in the summer of 2019 has developed into a complete forward, scoring goals and improving his link-up play. This led to him starring for Sweden at the recently concluded Euros as well.

According to the El Nacional, Barcelona are interested in signing the forward as manager Xavi is a big fan of the youngster. But Sociedad are not interested in selling their star to a direct rival. And also to buy Isak, any club would have to buy-out his release clause which will cost £75.6m.

Due to Barca’s financial situation, they might not be unable to pay the full amount. This has given the Gunners a chance to swoop in and bring in the Swede. They have been linked with the striker for some time now and the Emirates club might finally make a move.

Arsenal Fever View:

At the start of this season, it looked like the Gunners would not be needing another striker. But the situation with former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would have forced Mikel Arteta to change his mind.

And with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract at the end of this campaign, there is a need for a striker in north London. In Isak, they would be getting a player who is ready to take his game to the next level.

Already impressing on a regular basis, a move abroad could just unlock the 22-year-old’s potential. The Swede has a lot of pace, power and when that’s added to his technical ability, it makes him a complete package.

Arsenal would have to part with a club-record amount if they really want to bring in Isak. The good news is that they will not be facing much competition given Barcelona’s current finances. With a striker needed at the Emirates, the Gunners may be tempted to break the bank and bring in a rising star.
