Arsenal on the verge of signing Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey

Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal to sign Aaron Hickey, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport(as per Metro).

The 19-year-old joined the Serie A club in 2020 and has already amassed over 45 appearances for the club in all competitions. He won the Golden Boy award in his first season and has proved to be an integral part of the squad.

Hickey’s impressive performances have also earned him call-ups to the Scotland international team. The youngster also secured a spot in Steve Clarke’s side for the World Cup play-off fixtures.

As per reports in Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Gunners have emerged as favorites to sign the youngster. They have already tabled an offer in the region of £21.75m, with a move to the English capital becoming very likely for the star.

The north Londoners are reportedly working hard to get the deal over the line and the latest offer could be enough to persuade Bologna. The teenager has also garnered interest from other Premier League clubs. West Ham, Brentford and Newcastle are also in the transfer race.

Arsenal Fever View:

Kieran Tierney is undoubtedly Mikel Arteta’s go-to man in the left-back spot. But the Scot has had more than his fair share of injury problems during his time at the Emirates. The 24-year-old’s fitness issues have significantly reduced his game time, leaving Arteta short of options in that position.

Nuno Tavares is clearly still learning his trade and has struggled to gain a foothold in games, proving to be a weak link in the backline.

Hickey is capable of bolstering Arsenal’s defence and is a decent defender, who likes to push forward. He often makes quick overlapping runs and has the ability to make excellent crosses.

The Bologna man is still very young with plenty of time to hone his skills. If the Gunners sign him, it will be an investment for the future, and they need not worry about the left-back position for many years to come.

The striking department also needs reinforcements in the summer transfer window. With the contracts of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to expire this month, they are without a recognized striker for next season.
