Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Arsenal despite the Blues’ reluctance to sell him to their London rivals, as per reports in multiple Italian outlets.
The 23-year-old started the 2019-2020 season brilliantly under former manager Frank Lampard but failed to produce consistent displays towards the back end of the campaign.
Following Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as the new Chelsea boss last January, the first-team appearances have completely dried up for the Englishman. And the Blues are ready to cash in on the academy graduate this summer.
According to a report in Il Messaggero, Chelsea have accepted a two-year loan deal with AS Roma with an obligation to buy for €35 million. However, the forward is eager to join the Gunners and has already accepted personal terms worth around €5m-a-year.
The other Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Mikel Arteta has called the 23-year-old in order to persuade him for a move to the north London club. Jose Mourinho has also contacted the forward to lure him to the Italian capital, but the player dreams of playing for the Emirates club. The report further stated that Chelsea are not looking to sell their ace to a Premier League rival, and would only accept offers from abroad.
Arsenal Fever View:
Following the disappointing displays from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season, signing Tammy Abraham might prove to be a shrewd decision by Arsenal.
However, buying the 23-year-old will not be easy for the north London club. Chelsea will not be keen on letting their asset join a direct rival and the Gunners might have to put in a tremendous effort to get this deal over the line. The player’s willingness to move to the Emirates Stadium could be a decisive factor in this deal.
Meanwhile, there are less than three weeks remaining in the transfer window and there is still a lot of work to be done. The futures of Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira and Lacazette are not finalized yet and the Gunners are also looking to sign a new creative midfielder.
Arsenal have struggled big-time last season and without proper reinforcements, they might struggle yet again in the upcoming season. Having endured tough back-to-back campaigns under Mikel Arteta, the Emirates faithful might have to experience yet another disappointing season.
