‘Let him resign’ – Arsenal fans not happy with Mikel Arteta

Mikel Arteta

Arsenal had a disappointing end to their pre-season as they lost to Tottenham in a tightly fought game and Mikel Arteta told the official website after the game, that there was no point in worrying about signing attackers.

The Gunners come into the season on the back of a disappointing campaign as they finished eighth for the second year in a row which left them without any European football. One of the reasons for this was the lack of creativity in the opposition half.

When Arteta was asked about the options at his disposal, he responded by saying:

“What we have is what we have to maximise, and worrying about things that we don’t have at the moment, there is no point. My energy is only on the players we have, make them better, and make them a better threat and win matches.”

This prompted some angry reactions from the fans who lashed out at the boss for failing to acknowledge the need for signings. Here are some of the best reactions:

It is absolutely essential that the Gunners bring in some attackers to boost their chances. One position that really requires some attention is the attacking midfielder’s role. James Maddison and Martin Odegaard have been heavily linked with a move.

The north Londoners must look to bring in at least one of them to address the creativity issues. This is especially a problem when playing against teams that like to defend deep. You need someone with the vision and guile to unlock these defences and the Gunners do not have many players that can do that on a consistent basis.

If the team won’t sign anyone by the end of the summer, it will only lead to more resentment from the fans. Another position the north Londoners might have to strengthen will be that of a striker. With Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette having only one year left on their current deals, it might lead to a new arrival.

The Gunners do not have much time left in the window to make a statement. If they do sign Maddison or Odegaard, it will go some way in appeasing the fans. Arsenal and Arteta will have to get their act together before they run out of time.
