Arsenal are putting together a deal to extend the contract of Kieran Tierney as per a report from The Athletic.
The Scot joined the Gunners in the summer of 2019 and has quickly become one of the club’s most important players. A dependable presence on both ends of the pitch, the 24-year-old was one of the shining lights of a disappointing 2020/21.
According to the report, the defender’s wages will be bumped up to £110,000-per-week. It will be a five-year deal and is expected to be announced once Scotland’s participation in the Euros is over.
The report also states that the north Londoners are in the market for a creative midfielder. With Martin Odegaard set to stay with Real Madrid, they are likely to pursue other options. The Emirates club are working on deals for Albert Sambi Lokonga of Anderlecht and Ben White of Brighton And Hove Albion.

The news of Tierney getting a new contract will certainly make fans happy given his importance to the team. It is nice to see that the club are actively working on extending contracts pretty early, which wasn’t the case a couple of years as they let some players go into the final year without a deal in place.
The Scot has struggled a bit with injuries this season but is still one of the first names on the team sheet. His combination of technical brilliance coupled with a leader’s mentality make him a candidate to be a future captain.
The north Londoners need to work on getting back to the top and keeping hold of their best players is one way to do that. Going forward, it is the young core at the Emirates that will decide the next decade for the Gunners. This includes players like Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and the Scot.
Arsenal’s left-back situation has been sorted out for many years with Tierney’s extension. We might be getting the official confirmation pretty soon and the club will need to be applauded for making the right decision.
