‘Yes, Great News’, Arsenal fans react as club end pursuit of Ryan Bertrand

Arsenal Fans

Arsenal have ended their interest in left-back Ryan Bertrand and are in pursuit of a younger player as per The AFCBell on Twitter.

The north Londoners need a backup for Scottish full-back Kieran Tierney, who is the only recognised player in this position. They were earlier linked with the English defender whose contract with Southampton ended this summer.

According to The AFCBell, talks between Bertrand’s camp and the Gunners have come to a deadlock. This resulted in the club effectively ending their interest in the 31-year-old.

The Emirates club need someone to deputise for Tierney as Sead Kolasinac has been linked with a move to Germany and Italy. So, the report further claims that the club are looking at someone younger who can learn under the tutelage of the Scot.

One of the other names being suggested is Josh Doig from Scotland. The Hibernian left-back has been linked with a move to north London but as per an update, it is looking unlikely.

This news gave fans a lot to cheer about and they were quick to express it. Here are some of the best reactions:

Arsenal Fever View:

It is absolutely essential for the Gunners to get another player in this position or it can derail their season. This happened a couple of months ago when an injury to Tierney disrupted the team’s balance.

Having to use a player who had no experience at left-back led to the north Londoners being knocked out of the Europa League. Things could have gone differently if there was someone already present at the club.

And the fact that Arsenal are looking for a younger player is encouraging. The problem with choosing someone like Bertrand is the age. You never know how well the player is going to be when given a chance.

The Englishman will soon be 32 and will not be getting many chances at the Emirates. By choosing someone younger, it gives the club a player that can grow under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta. The Emirates club are doing the right thing by looking for another left-back and ending their interest in Bertrand would benefit them in the long run.
