And finally after days of speculation Petr Cech has joined Arsenal from Chelsea officially to the joy of all Gunners around the world. The experienced shot stopper also said that it was Wenger who lured him to the Emirates by clearly explaining the club’s ambitions for the 2015-16 season to him, which suggests that the French manager is seriously considering more moves and Cech was just one missing piece in the jigsaw.
The other two are obviously a defensive midfielder and a striker and we have already been linked with a number of players ever since the 2014-15 season came to an end in May. A mentionable few include Juventus central midfielder Arturo Vidal, Southampton defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho and FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez. However Schneiderlin looks set to join Manchester United and Martinez has already agreed to join Atletico Madrid. So that leaves us with limited options left. Let us analyse a few of our remaining transfer targets in detail.
Francis Coquelin was literally a wall in front of our defence during the second half of last season. However depending entirely on him for a full season would not be wise move. Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are ageing fast and clearly out of form as well. Hence a new defensive midfielder is of atmost importance for the wellness of the team. Recently Arturo Vidal and William Carvalho have once again been linked with Arsenal. In addition to them the Bender brothers from Germany have also been linked with Arsenal surprisingly.
Arturo Vidal is one of Juventus’ most defensive central midfielder in their 4-3-1-2 formation and sometimes is employed behind even Marchisio. So adapting to the defensive midfielder role at Arsenal wont be difficult for the Chilean International who has been capped 64 times for his national team and above all Vidal is the only person who satisfies the ‘World Class’ tag among all our targets. So buying Vidal would make us serious contenders for the Premier League title the coming season. Another one among our midfield targets is 23-year old Portuguese International William Carvalho.
This tall and strongly built defensive midfielder had been linked with Arsenal in the previous two transfer windows as well. So making a move for him will make all the sense. Carvalho has been capped 10 times for his national team and impressed in the recently concluded U-21 Euro. His performance in the decimation of Germany U-21 team in the semi-final was easily the best in the tournament. He was eventually named as the player of the tournament. Hence Carvalho will be a valuable asset for the gunners if he decides to join.
The Bender brothers namely Lars Bender and Sven Bender are both unique. Being twins and playing in the same position both of them are extremely talented. This 26-year old duo have both represented the German national team. Lars has donned the German colours 19 times with Sven doing it seven times. Both the brothers still play in the Bundesliga. Lars plays for Bayer Leverkusen and is their captain. Sven plays for Borussia Dortmund. Both of them are at the top of their form though Sven is a little injury prone. Bringing atleast one of them to the Emirates will give Wenger enough flexibility in the defensive midfield position. So Wenger must act quick even if he wants one of them as few other clubs have also shown interest in them.
The only striking or attacking player linked with Arsenal in the recent times is Chilean Eduardo Vargas. He is primarily a right winger who can also play as a centre forward. He has been monumental in Chile’s surge to the final along with Arsenal’s star forward Alexis Sanchez in the forward line. Hence if he joins Arsenal it wont take too much time to adapt with Sanchez also there to guide him along with the experienced French manager Arsene Wenger. Vargas would be an interesting buy for Arsenal and will surely improve under Wenger.
With Chilean duo Vidal and Vargas linked Sanchez could be used as an intermediate to lure them to the Emirates. One among the Bender brothers can be brought to the Emirates if Wenger’s interest on them heats up in due course. William Carvalho can easily be persuaded to join Arsenal by Wenger and a fee around 20-25 million pounds will easily land him at the Emirates. With the necessity to buy a defensive midfielder and a striker to challenge for the Premier League title again may Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger take the right decision regarding our remaining transfers for the coming season.
