West Brom 0-1 Arsenal: Review and Player Ratings

Arsenal striker Danny welback’s 60th minute strike sealed the victory for the Gunners against a determined West Brom side on Saturday.

The North London club made 5 changes from the team that played against Dortmund in the midweek with Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny starting their first match after returning from injury. The Gunners played with an attacking 4-3-3 formation and started the game well, but the baggies were holding the ball well.

Arsenal were chasing the ball for most parts of the first half, but created some good chances which they failed to finish. However they started the second half on a bright note and showed more determination to score. They were finally rewarded around the hour mark after Santi Cazorla crossed in a superb ball for Welbeck to score.

Cazorla was by far the best man on the pitch for Arsenal and in the end we bagged up 3 points and maintained their unbeaten record at the hawthorns from 2005, but it was overall a lackluster performance.

PLAYER RATINGS

Here are the ratings from the game

Emiliano Martinez | 6.5 : He had little to do but was commanding his area very well when called upon. It was his second clean sheet in a row.

Calum Chambers | 6.5 :  It was a composed display from the youngster and also helped in the attack.

Per Mertesacker | 7 : He was very comfortable alongside Koscielny and was instrumental in preventing the equaliser.

Laurent Koscielny | 7 : Great to have him back and was solid as usual.

Nacho Monreal | n/a : He was subbed early on due to a knee injury and hopefully it won’t be anything serious.

Mathieu Flamini | 6.5 : He was much better and held his position very well

Aaron Ramsey | 6 : It seems he is trying to do too much. He needs to play naturally and goals will eventually come.

Santi Cazorla | 7.5 : Man of the Match : His finishing wasn’t on the mark but he was the best player on the pitch for Arsenal. He started the season on a poor note but he is getting better with each passing game.

Alexis Sanchez | 6.5 : He wasn’t at his best but again his work ethic was amazing and was dangerous at times.

Danny Welbeck | 7 : He started on the wing and had some good chances before the acrobatic goal.

Olivier Giroud | 6 : He is still a bit rusty but was good on the ball and made his presence felt physically.

Substitutes

Kieran Gibbs | 6 : He was solid at the back since he came on and gave us an injury scare at the end, hopefully nothing is serious.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | n/a : Came on in the last 10 minutes and didn’t have enough time to influence the game.
