Arsenal complete transfer deal for 24-year-old as agreement is reached, personal terms in discussion

Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that they have reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign defender Carl Jenkinson, according to reports in Sky Sports.

Speaking at a press conference, Allardyce said:

“I think that’s [down to] negotiations between the chairman and the player’s agent,” said Allardyce.

“While we appear to have an agreement with Arsenal, that agreement with the player hasn’t reached a conclusion, so that’s hanging in the balance, as we say.

From Sam’s comments, it seems there are still some contract details that are yet to be sorted out with his agent, but it is likely to be finalized pretty soon.

Having spent 6 years on the books, the curtain is coming down on his Arsenal career.

The right-back’s competitive debut came against Udinese in the final stage of the qualifying round of the Champions league qualifiers in August 2011 coming on as a substitute after being contracted from Charlton Athletic for £1 million.

His first Premier league appearance was against Liverpool playing right back. He was a member of the Arsenal side that suffered the 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old was sent off for his infringement on Henandez Chicharito. Truly a match to forget if I am being totally honest. He contributed to the second goal by providing an assist for Robin Van Persie in that game.

He caught a tough break when he suffered a stress fracture in his lower back. This began the process of what became his Arsenal career. Soon after his return from injury which lasted for 3 months, he featured as a substitute against Norwich and Tottenham Hotspur.

The youngster finally scored his first goal on the last day of the season 2013-14 against Norwich in a 2-0 win for The North London club. He joined West Ham on loan in the following season 2014-15. He picked up a hamstring injury during pre-season that lasted for about a month.

Returning to fitness, he earned praise for his quality displays on the pitch which not only the manager but the fans recognized as well.

It is no surprise that Big Sam (Sam Allardyce) quickly acted in terms of bringing Carl to join him at Crystal Palace having secured the job not long ago.

Carl Jenkinson played for Arsenal this season 2016-17. Most notably was the clash against Southampton in the Carling cup where Wenger had harsh words for him due to his poor display during the match.

The Boss’s emotions were overwhelmed by the fact that he had no choice but keep him on as Bellerin was out injured.

With Carl Jenkinson on his way out and Mathieu Debuchy pushing for a move after his claims about his relationship with Wenger which the boss had to refute, I fear we are quite light in that department.

I wish Carl Jenkinson a wonderful career ahead all the same. True Gunner by heart!
