Guillem Balague reveals former PSG coach is in London to hold Arsenal talks

Former PSG manager Unai Emery has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal’s boss, according to Sky Sports journalist Guillem Balague.

The report comes as a shock to many as former captain and Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City Mikel Arteta was looking all set to take over the Gunners.

Unai Emery boosts an impressive CV winning the Ligue 1 this campaign along with Coupe de France and Coupe de Ligue in 2016-17 and 2017-2018.

It was his time at Sevilla which reportedly has caught the eyes of the Arsenal hierarchy with whom he won 3 Europe League titles between 2014-16.

He began his managerial career at Lorca and then left for Almeria in 2006 who he led to an eighth place finish in La liga in 2007-08, after gaining promotion with the same in the 2006-07 season.

Almeria’s impressive La liga campaign led Unai Emery to Valencia who he managed for four seasons and led the los Che to third place finishes in his last three seasons. He would suit Arsenal’s playing style with the 46-year-old Spaniard also a huge admirer of the free flowing attacking football for which the Gunners are famous for.

Even though Emery had a huge war chest at PSG, it was his impressive work with Sevilla on limited resources which has caught the eyes of the Arsenal hierarchy.

Unai Emery’s availability has indeed alerted the Arsenal bosses even though Mikel Arteta still remains the favourite for the position according to the same article.

On April 28, Emery announced his decision to leave the Parisian club at the end of the season with a year left on his contract. The daily mail also puts forward the scenario of Arteta and Emery working together at Arsenal if the Gunners can bring in their former captain and take up a similar job to which he currently has at Manchester City.
