Journalist who broke Aubameyang transfer story claims Arsenal are interested in Leno

Bernd Leno

Arsenal’s transfer activity kicked off with the signing of Stephan Lichsteiner. The veteran defender was signed on a free from Juventus.

There are a lot of other players that the club has been linked with for a variety of positions. One among is them is that of the goalkeeper.

Last season, this proved to be a real weak spot for the Gunners with Petr Cech proving to be a little error prone. There have been a lot of names suggested for this position but a favorite seems to have emerged from the list.

The man said to replace Cech is the German Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen. Arsenal are looking forward to sealing the transfer quickly.

This information was confirmed when Spanish journalist Kike Marin tweeted saying that Leno was the main target of Unai Emery. The new manager has chosen the German to be his goalkeeper.

Here is the tweet:

Given the number of rumors that come about every year, it is tough to gauge the reliability of them. But, Marin has developed a reputation for being right since the January transfer window.

He was one of the first to say that Aubameyang was coming to Arsenal. At the time, not many seemed to believe him but he was right in the end. He showed this again this past month, when he suggested Emery for the Arsenal job. Despite a majority of people saying that it was Arteta, he was right once again.

Perhaps it is his contact with Raul Sanllehi that gives him access to this kind of information. Whatever the reason may be, Arsenal fans would do well to keep an eye out for his tweets regarding transfer activity. As for Leno, the fact that he is not going to the World Cup makes the negotiation that much easier.

It is encouraging that Arsenal are in the market for a goalkeeper. And fans will be hoping that signing the German will be a new dawn for the Gunners between the sticks. All we can do now is wait and hope for a swift completion. But, given how Arsenal operate, it’s not going to be swift is it ?
