Confirmed: Arsenal officially announce Bernd Leno signing

Bernd Leno

It’s finally done. Arsenal have officially announced that Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno has signed for the club, as per Gunners official website.

The 26-year-old has been the starting keeper for Leverkusen for several seasons now, making 38 appearances this season.

Leno has reportedly joined for a fee of around £20million and has signed a long-term contract, thought to be 5 years long.

As well as being a well-known player in the Bundesliga, Leno has earned 6 caps for Germany, fighting Manuel Neuer for the top spot in the International side.

Reports have been linking the goalkeeper with a transfer to the North London club for several seasons now, and fans will be relieved now the deal has finally been announced. After a mixed season for Petr Cech, a new goalkeeper was seen as a vital signing for new manager Emery

With Leno coming in to the side, it is expected that Petr Cech could soon leave the club. A player with a career like Cech’s will definitely not want to sit on the bench for the last few seasons of his playing years and it is believed that he would rather seek first team football elsewhere.

It is currently being reported that Cech is favoring a move to Italian side Napoli, according to the Daily Star, a transfer for Cech could bring in much-needed funds for the ambitious transfer window Emery and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat seem to be expecting.

With signings of Sokratis and Caglar looking more and more promising, and Soyuncu telling his agent to complete the move to North London.

With an already formidable attack including Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, It is believed Emery will be focusing on getting a solid defence up and running as a base to establish a title challenge next season.
