Arsenal emerge surprise contenders to sign in-form Chelsea attacker

Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs keeping a close eye on Chelsea winger Kenedy ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The Brazilian had largely been confined to a left-back/left wing-back role during his time at Stamford Bridge, but his loan move to Newcastle United has brought the best out of his abilities.

The 22-year-old joined the Magpies on a short-term loan for the season in January and the ex-Fluminense man has since been deployed in a left-wing role, where he has impressed with two goals and two assists in the space of eight Premier League outings.

According to ESPN FC, the Gunners have joined Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in the pursuit of the in-form winger, though they have yet to make a formal approach of any sort for the Brazilian.

Kenedy appears to have been another victim of being played out of position with our arch-rivals, and Rafael Benitez’s decision to play him higher up the field has enhanced his performances during the second half of the campaign.

The Brazilian has yet to prove whether he can maintain his showing through a considerable period of time, but he could be worth the risk for Arsene Wenger’s side, provided he is available for an affordable sum during the summer.

At present, the attack does not appear in need of any reinforcement, and the focus is more on committing young Reiss Nelson to a new long-term contract whilst Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi are already providing the competition for the wider roles.

As such, the Gunners would not want to get into a transfer tussle with the likes of Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain with the latter, in particular, having shown their spending might with a couple of mega-money deals over the past year.
