Arsenal closing in on Vidal, but do we really need him?

Football season is now over, no more football games till early August. Barcelona thrashing Juventus in Champions League final ended the 2014-2015 football season, with two months of odd International friendlies and lots and lots of transfer rumors to follow.

As ever there is a demand from Arsenal supporters for world class signings in the transfer market this summer to help bolster an already promising squad. There are no any major signings yet, but with regards to the club youth setup, there has already been much activity with three players signing deals for the Gunners.

Vidal linking to Arsenal is turning into a real transfer madness, it all started when an Argentine journalist Hernen Feler Tweeted on Saturday night ‘After the Copa America in Chile, it will be made official the arrival of Arturo Vidal Arsenal. Everything is closed. He will partner Alexis.’ Arsenal fans are very excited by the news but some feel we should be going for a CDM instead of a CM. Our mid-field is full of top players and it’s hard to see how a new Midfielder can fit in to the team.

Firstly, we all agree that Vidal is a top talent and it’s very hard to say NO. Ozil’s transfer also sparked few questions but we all can see how important he has been for the team. I remember when RVP signed for United, they already have three strikers (Rooney,Berbatov,Chichorito), many questioned the move and the rest is history. Vidal is a winner and he will bring the same mentality to the squad like Ozil. His partnership with Alexis is very impressive for the National side and it’s been a key to the squad.

Secondly, where will he play? Jack,Ramsey,Flamini,Arteta,Thomas and Santi all can play in center mid-field position, so its very hard to see Vidal Play in there. Jack’s future is in doubt but I don’t see him leaving, Arteta is confident regarding his contract situation and Thomas already signed a deal, however Flamini may leave this summer. I don’t think Arteta and Thomas will play regularly, they are more like a squad players.

I personally feel Wenger may play Vidal as a deep flying mid-fielder. He will be an upgrade to Francis, but the Chilean is CM not a CDM so why play him there? Let me remind you that Wenger likes his defensive midfielder to start an attack. Veira and Gilberto are the best examples, it was also the same case with Song. If you take this to consideration Vidal perfects fits into the team.

Finally, Competition is a key factor in every team and will push players to perform in much efficient way. When Giroud came back from injury, he knew he must perform to replace Welbeck, and he came with some exceptional performances. Theo did the same to replace Giroud, scored a hat-trick in the final league game, started and scored in the FA cup final. Similar story with Jack, started his first league game since December and scored a spectacular goal. Vidal acquisition can do no harm.

It will be a fantastic signing if we bring Vidal to the Emirates. Let’s wait and see.
