Arsenal board given transfer ultimatum from 27-year-old defender’s agent

Predicted Arsenal Line-up

Now that the transfer window has opened, there will be a lot of rumours linking almost every player available on the market to Arsenal.

However, one of the players that could be on his way out is German center-back Shkodran Mustafi. As per reports coming from the Mirror, the defender’s agent has demanded a meeting with the club’s officials to know their intentions on Mustafi who has had little game time this season.

Mustafi is expected to get some game time by virtue of Calum Chambers’s injury. The Englishman damaged his ligaments and as a result of that, the German defender could be given a few opportunities in the team.

The report in Mirror further claims that despite the possibility of better game time, the 27-year-old might leave the Emirates. It is now up to Arteta to decide on whether to keep his defensive options open or cash in on the player.

Mustafi joined the North London side in the summer of 2016 in a deal that was worth £35m and it remains to be seen how much the North London club will recoup from the sale if they decide on putting the defender on the market. Whatever the decision of the club happens to be, we will have a little more clarity once the meeting between both parties is done.

One bit of exciting news for Arsenal fans is the arrival of William Saliba in the summer from his loan speel. Apart from this talented youngster, the club is also being linked with players such as Dayot Upamecano(as per Metro).

The fortunes of the Gunners seem to be slowly improving under the guidance of new manager Mikel Arteta as they ended their winless streak by beating Manchester United 2-0 to start the new year on the right note.

The injury situation of the squad means that a player like Mustafi might still have a role to play and help Arsenal return to the Champions League. It remains to be seen what plans Arteta has for Mustafi, but the next couple of games should give us a clear picture.
