Apart from signing players to the first team, Arsenal have also been looking at bringing in some youngsters. This is to boost the youth teams which will pay dividend at a later date.
With that in mind, the Gunners have moved to get the highly rated youngster Sam Greenwood from Sunderland and according to reports the youngster has agreed on a deal to join the North London club, according to reports in Team Talk.
Arsenal had a lot of competition but it appears that they have pulled this one off. Some of the teams that were interested in Greenwood include both Liverpool and Manchester United. It is important for any club to have a wealth of young talent.
You never know who will be able to make the step up so it becomes essential to have this kind of talent fighting for a spot in the youth team.
Greenwood has been very impressive for the Sunderland youth teams where he has a scored a lot of goals. This has caught the eye of the Arsenal scouts and they have chosen him as a player to target.
The Gunners have already been active in trying to get other similar wonder kids with the expected signing of Marcelo Flores from Ipswich. The club has a well-known tradition of allowing youngsters to blossom into the first team and players such as Greenwood will be hoping to be a part of that trend as well.
Though he may not play for the first team, if he is able to impress for the youth teams, he will surely get a chance in the near future. It is clear that Unai Emery will give a chance to some of the younger players as evidenced by the way both Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are a part of the first team at the moment.
The number of clubs that are chasing his signature shows that Greenwood is a talented player and someone who is to watch out for. Arsenal still have some transfer business to take care of but it is a good sign that they are still focusing on the youth teams as well.
