Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing Youri Tielemans, with the midfielder keen on securing a move to north London this summer, according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs(via GiveMeSport).
The 25-year-old has been a mainstay in the Foxes’ midfield since joining the club in 2019. He has amassed over 150 appearances in all competitions, having been directly involved in 48 goals. With 52 appearances, he is also a regular for the Belgium national team.
The midfielder has just 11 months left on his current contract with Leicester City. Without a contract extension in sight, the club would be ready to sell him this summer. Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle have all been linked with a move for Tielemans. But it now appears that the Gunners are leading the race for his signature.
According to Ben Jacobs, the Belgian is keen on a switch to the English capital this summer. He has made his intention clear to play for the club after agreeing on personal terms. However, the Gunners are yet to head to the negotiating table to finalize a transfer fee with their counterparts.
According to GiveMeSport, he said:
“As Leicester have said and as I’ve said repeatedly, Arsenal have never made an offer for Youri Tielemans.
“What they have done is gone to the player and agreed personal terms, broadly speaking.
“What they do know is that Tielemans would like to move to Arsenal.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Agreeing on personal terms with a player is usually the most important aspect of a deal. If the reports are true, Arsenal have boosted their chances of landing him in this transfer window.
Tielemans is a Premier league proven player who can hit the ground running from his first game. He has a real knack for creating chances from midfield and is capable of unleashing a venomous strike from distance.
The Belgian can also occupy a deeper role, acting as a link between attack and defense. Signing him will certainly reinforce Mikel Arteta’s midfield options.
The north Londoners have been busy this transfer window. They have splashed over £120million on five new signings, with the latest one being Oleksandr Zinchenko. Although he was deployed in the left-back position by Pep Guardiola, his future lies in the midfield.
If the Gunners manage to pull off the Tielemans deal, this transfer window could be one of their best in recent years. The hierarchy have trusted the process and backed Arteta financially in the market. All eyes will be on Arteta and his men when they kickstart the Premier League season next Friday with an away trip to Crystal Palace.
