Mesut Ozil could leave Arsenal this summer

Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil, the Arsenal playmaker could be on his way to Turkey with Fenerbahce being interested in his signature, according to reports in the Mirror.

The midfielder has been given the go-ahead by manager Unai Emery. Ozil is the highest earner at the London club and he gets a wage of £350,000-per-week.

And as per reports coming from the Turkish media, the chances of the deal happening are ’50-51 percent’. A respected journalist from Turkey, Fatih Dogan said:

‘Fenerbahce president Ali Koc is working very hard to sign him. For his wages and loan fee, the club are trying to find the sponsors. They are working on it.’

‘I think it’s going very well. Right now, I can say the possibility is 50-51% positive.’

The German who is of Turkish origin was a fan of the Turkish club when he was a child and there are suggestions that he could be interested in playing for them. But there is a factor that could complicate this deal.

Fenerbahce are currently under investigation by UEFA for an alleged breach of Financial Fair Play rules and if they are found guilty, they could be faced with a transfer ban. If that were to happen, then a move for Ozil would not be possible.

Last season was a bit of an underwhelming campaign for Ozil who only went to make 24 appearances as it appeared that he did not fit within the playing that manager Unai Emery was trying to implement. This was on the back of a disappointing World Cup that ended with him retiring from the German national team.

But he is still under contract with the North London club and should he choose to stay, there is no way that the club will be able to force him out. The primary objective for the Gunners in the new season is to get back into the Champions League and they will need to have a squad that is strong in all areas.

Ozil has helped the Emirates club get out of their trophy drought and his time at the club has seen them win three FA Cups and three Community Shields. It will be interesting where he ends up playing next season and if that happens to be in Turkey, then a majority of the Arsenal fans will be wishing him the best of luck.
