German club Wolfsburg are reportedly planning a summer a swoop for Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud by offering him a bumper deal.
Wolfsburg and Juventus are locked in battle to sign the striker, according to the Bleacher Report. The source also claimed that Wolfsburg have gone ahead to approach Giroud.
The forward joined Arsenal from Montepellier in 2012 but has not really been having it smooth at the Emirates Stadium. His four years at the club has been characterized by inconsistency which always becomes pronounced at the crucial times of the season.
The France international has scored just 12 league goals and 16 in all competitions so far this season- his fewest since joining the London club- and has not registered a goal in the Premier League since the beginning of the second half of this season.
The likes of Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and recently Alex Iwobi have appeared to be much better in attack than Giroud. He has failed to deliver as the main attacker of the club as we blew up a golden chance of winning the league this season.
He was booed by a section of the fans during the 1-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium and responded by cupping his ear after providing the assist that led to Welbeck’s goal.
The Mirror and the Foot Mercato reported that Wolfsburg are ready to offer him an over £5 million-a–year contract as they look to replace former Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner, whose contract with the club was terminated last month due to unimpressive form.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of prolific strikers ahead of the transfer window and Arsene Wenger may decide to offload his compatriot if the right offer is made available.
It is however, not certain if Giroud will be willing to move to the Bundesliga club who currently sit 10th on the league table, giving that Champions League football next season is not guaranteed. However, it is good news and one that the fans will be hoping that it comes into fruition.
Giroud has failed to live up to expectations despite having the arguably the best attack behind him.
