With the season less than three weeks away, there are still some major questions that need to be answered by Arsenal. One area of concern is transfers. While the Gunners’ transfer business seems to be picking up a bit of steam, it is getting late when it comes to getting new players in and bedding them into the team.
The midfield is one area where the north London club need an upgrade and there has been only one signing in Albert Sambi Lokonga. The club are said to be working on more midfield signings but even if they get some signings in, they most likely won’t be ready for the start of the season, which can be a problem given their difficult start to the season.
The backline seems to be a question mark as well with the only position that’s assured is Kieran Tierney at left-back. The other three positions are all up in the air. Ben White should be announced this upcoming week, but with him just returning from holiday, he probably won’t be in contention to start in the team’s first couple of games.
Right-back was a position that most fans thought would surely be addressed in the transfer window but there has been little to no movement for a new signing so far. So who starts there? Is it Cedric, Callum Chambers, or possibly Maitland-Niles if Arsenal decide to hold on to him? Gabriel Magalhaes was the favorite to start the season but his injury creates more uncertainty in the backline.
Pablo Mari seems like the most obvious replacement but he has struggled a bit in the pre-season so it could be possible that Arteta may consider a different option if his form doesn’t improve. Another area of concern is the lack of outgoings from the club.
The manager and the team need to know who will be there so they can solidify as a group with the season so close. Instead, there are still players who are at the club that most likely won’t be with the club at the start of the season.
Xhaka, Bellerin, Willian, Torreira, and Kolasınac are all players that have been heavily linked with moves away from the club but they are all still there. Money can be made from the sales of these players to help get the rest of the signings in that the Gunners need.
However, its getting to the point where the sales would happen so late in the window that any new signings would not be available for the start of the season. These are all concerns that could impact the start of Arsenal’s season and while all of them won’t be fixed by the start of the season, but atleast a couple of them can be addressed so the club can be at its strongest to have a much needed fast start to the season.
