It’s not exactly a secret that the fluctuating form of Mesut Ozil has been of concern, particularly last season.
The World Cup winner and midfield playmaker has suffered spells of inconsistency which many have highlighted as one of Arsenal’s major failings, particularly whilst Arsene Wenger was in charge.
The Frenchman had been accused of mollycoddling the German and allowing him too much license in his role.
This statement can be viewed as either totally unjust or extremely accurate, depending on your point of view but Ozil has tended to disappear on occasion in matches.
The problem is that when the midfielder is at his imperious best, he sets the bar of excellence so high that it becomes expected. The truth is that Ozil was hampered by a team with a great many weaknesses and that he has been expected to carry the burden alone.
Unai Emery realises the scale of the problem and intends to lift the pressure from his player’s shoulders by adding another midfielder to compliment the Germans undeniable skills.
Emery has decided to bolster the midfield with another player of equal creative skill to rejuvenate the new number 10. Names appear to be popping up daily but it may be a player that we have already seen in the World Cup and one that is not on everyone’s radar
Both Mislintat and Emery have contacts across the globe but if I were a betting man, I’d be looking at an existing player from the Spanish or German leagues. With both Country’s making an early exit from the WC, negotiations would be fairly easy to conduct and a transfer could be just weeks away.
