Arsenal got back to winning ways against Huddersfield after a disappointing defeat to Manchester City last weekend.
And as a result of Chelsea losing 6-0 to City, the North London club are currently fifth just one shy of the Champions League places. It is evident that getting back to the top tier of European competitions is the Gunners primary target for this season.
Unai Emery says he is confident of sealing a top-four slot after Arsenal secured their first away win since November at Huddersfield. According to Arsenal’s official website, this is what the boss said:
“It was very important, this victory, it is three points for us to be closer to the top four, and our target is this.
“Knowing we need to take the regularity at home and away, and today this victory I think can give us confidence and the possibility to continue our target in the Premier League.”
From this, it is clear that the focus of the club is to get back into Europe’s elite competition which has evaded them for the past two seasons and was one of the major reasons behind the departure of long-serving ex-manager Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners are currently fifth, one point behind a resurgent Manchester United who have been in great form since the appointment of an interim manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who took over from Mourinho.
Chelsea are going through a bit of a rough patch after suffering heavy defeats at the hands of Bournemouth and Manchester City, which has hindered their march towards the top four.
Despite this, the Stamford Bridge club cannot be discounted and Arsenal will have to keep a close eye on both these teams. Apart from Chelsea and United, there isn’t much competition for the fourth spot so that will give the club some breathing room.
There are twelve games left in the Premier League season and if Arsenal are able to finish on a strong note, getting back into the Champions League will be a real possibility.
