Former Arsenal star Tony Adams claims Bukayo Saka is only second to Lionel Messi at scoring and assisting goals while urging the Gunners to tie him down to a new contract.
Saka is in phenomenal form this season, which includes 13 goals and 10 assists, propelling Arsenal to the top of the Premier League. He is enjoying similar success on the international stage, scoring his eighth goal in his 26th cap for the Three Lions on Sunday.
The youngster is also the first player to register 10+ goals and assists in the English top tier this campaign as he continues to flourish playing under Mikel Arteta.
The 21-year-old’s excellent performances on the pitch has Adams comparing him to Lionel Messi. He claims there is nobody better in the world other than the Argentine.
Despite Erling Haaland and Marcus Rashford’s impressive goal-scoring performances, Adams feels Saka is the favorite to win the PFA Player of the Year award. In his column for the Sun, the Highbury Icon said:
“I’m sure they [Arsenal] will give Bukayo [Saka] that hefty new contract to keep him at the Emirates because they know he is irreplaceable. If there’s a better player in world football at the moment, someone who both scores and makes goals, the only one I can think of is Lionel Messi.”
“Erling Haaland might be scoring hundreds of goals for Manchester City, and Marcus Rashford is also having a phenomenal season for United. But Bukayo is, hands down, the Footballer of the Year because he was England’s best player at the World Cup, and he’s been the best player for the team eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.”
“Playing in the Champions League next season will be a whole new ball game for this Arsenal team. And it’s going to be really difficult for the current squad to compete at that level while also challenging for the title.”
Arsenal Fever View:
The 21-year-old is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the country right now. Having 20+ goals and assists in the world’s toughest league is not an easy feat.
Saka, who joined the Hale End academy at the age of seven, is a Gunner by heart. He is adored by all the Arsenal fans and therefore, it is only a matter of time before he signs the new contract.
As the international break draws to an end, the north Londoners return to action on Saturday. With just ten games left in the season, every game will be like a final to Arteta and his men.
