Arsenal could be looking to sell midfielder Thomas Partey this summer, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Ghanaian who arrived in the summer of 2020 has gone on to become one of the most important players for the Gunners. His combination of pace and skill as well as defensive awareness has made him one of the best in his position in the Premier League.
According to Romano via his YouTube channel, the journalist had this to say about Partey:
“Also, Thomas Partey could be on the move this summer, it’s a possibility for Thomas Partey to leave Arsenal. I’m told this is very concrete, there’s a concrete chance for Thomas Partey to find a solution and to leave Arsenal Football Club.
“For Thomas Partey there is still time to look at options and then discuss with Arsenal, but Thomas Partey is a concrete name in the potential exit of Arsenal.”
With Granit Xhaka also looking likely to leave the Emirates, it looks like the north Londoners will be without two experienced midfielders.
Arsenal Fever View:
For Mikel Arteta to sanction the departure of one potentially two of the team’s most important players is a big risk. Though there are concrete links with arrivals in the form of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, there is a lot left to be desired.
One of the areas where the likes of Manchester City are ahead of the Gunners is with their depth. If Arteta wants to take on his former team and pip them to the title, there needs to be somewhat similar depth in the north of London as well.
So much of change can prove to be a big challenge for any team and it will be interesting to see how the north Londoners are able to deal with it. This is going to be one of the biggest challenges that Arteta faces as he looks to make the team world beaters again.
Arsenal need to make a decision with regards to Partey as he will soon be on the wrong side of 30 and on big wages as well. This would be as good a time as any to sell the midfielder as there are only two years left on the player’s current contract. We could be set for an interesting transfer window.
