Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand feels that Hector Bellerin is currently the best right-back in the Premier League, as per Evening Standard.
The youngster has earned lavish praise from all corners since graduating from the youth sides to the Arsenal first team. His journey has been quick and should be a model for the other youngsters playing for the junior teams.
When he was first brought into the first team, he was filling in for Debuchy but the Spaniard has now made the position his own and is one of the first names on the team sheet every game.
Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he is a key admirer of the youngster, praising the Spaniard’s forward runs and also for having an eye on the defence.
Writing in his column for Evening Standard, he said:
Hector Bellerin is probably the best right-back in the Premier League right now.
He is supremely quick, not shy in getting forward, but likes to defend as well.
Hector Bellerin is set to be one of the world’s biggest stars in the coming years. After his performances at right back for the Arsenal first team last season, he is seen as one of the bright young stars in world football, and is set to develop into a genuinely world class player.
Feridinand further added that the current back four of Arsenal are the best he has seen in years and if they can get it right, the North London club might have a shot at winning some silverware. He added:
This is the best back four I have seen at Arsenal for many a year. They are settled and look confident.
Laurent Koscielny has been one of the most consistent defenders for the last few seasons and has found a great partner in summer signing Shkodran Mustafi.
Arsenal’s success in the early years of Wenger’s reign was built on a solid back four and if they can get that right again now, they will have a good chance of winning silverware.
The back four this season has been very stable except for some mistakes here and there, which is expected in any defence. The strength and understanding of the central duo has been missing from the Arsenal sides over the last decade.
We had Mertesacker over the past few years and although he was very good with his technique, the German never had the speed and considering how fast the football is these days the Gunners were always vulnerable.
However with the acquisition of Mustafi, Arsenal are lot more covered at the back both in terms of technique and speed which has been evident over the past two months. Hopefully the defence can continue to stay rigid and take us to that elusive Premier League trophy.
