‘Thank god’ – Arsenal fans react to update on Matteo Guendouzi

Matteo Guendouzi

One of the stories that ran deep into the summer transfer window was the future of Matteo Guendouzi. Arsenal finally agreed on a deal with Marseille that saw the midfielder head there on loan.

Ever since the Frenchman had an altercation with Neal Maupay of Brighton and Hove Albion during the 2019/20 season, he was removed from the Gunners setup. News broke out that the manager had issues with his attitude and that saw him being loaned to Hertha Berlin last season.

Now back in his homeland, Guendouzi has made a good start at his new club along with fellow Arsenal loanee William Saliba. But not everything seems to be going smoothly and it seems to do with the player’s attitude once again.

As per French journalist Romain Canuti from Foot Radio:

“There are a few players at Marseille who are struggling with Guendouzi. His way of working, when he always blames others for things, when he falls to his knees in training to implore God because a touch isn’t good enough, it grates.”

The Gunners fans reacted sharply to this on Twitter and the update didn’t surprise many supporters. Here are some of the best reactions:

Arsenal Fever View:

It was precisely this kind of behaviour that saw Guendouzi fall out with Mikel Arteta and that led to his eventual exile from the team. And should the 22-year-old continue to behave this way, it is only going to derail his career.

What is frustrating is that the youngster is a player with so much talent and potential and not too long ago was considered to be one of the best young players in the world. If the Frenchman had made peace with Arteta, he could have started at the Emirates on a regular basis.

Guendouzi is certainly someone who could have had a long, great career at Arsenal had things worked out differently. Due to his young age, the player has the opportunity to turn his career around and develop a positive reputation. His spell at Marseille could lead to him reaching greater heights and see the France international reach his potential.
