Rio Ferdinand heaps special praise on Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, believes Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale has got the potential to become a top goalkeeper in the future.

The 23-year-old has been one of the best signings for the Gunners this season. He arrived from Sheffield United for a £30m transfer fee, which drew mixed reactions from the Arsenal faithful.

However, Ramsdale has turned his fortunes around in the capital, having kept 12 clean sheets in 30 Premier League appearances. In the process, he has made some stellar saves and has helped the north London club play out from the back with great effect.

While discussing his signing of the season on Ferdinand Presents FIVE, the ex-PL star reserved special praise for the Englishman. Although he picked Luiz Diaz as his best signing, he predicted a bright future for Ramsdale.

The youngster is touted to be England’s first-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup. His recent impressive performances will certainly have Gareth Southgate contemplating changes between the sticks for the Three Lions. The Manchester United legend said:

“Aaron Ramsdale, yep. He started the season ridiculously well, being talked about to play for England”

“He’ll be a top keeper for years to come.”

Arsenal Fever View:

Ramsdale joined the north London club on the back of two successive relegations with Bournemouth and Sheffield United. Signing him was a huge gamble, but almost a season later, that £30 million price tag looks to be worth every penny.

The Englishman is still only 23, which means he has over a decade of top-level football left in him. He is a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s philosophy of playing out from the back, and it looks like Arsenal need not worry about that position for a long time.

The former Sheffield man is also a fan favorite. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is incredibly passionate about the club. All the evidence suggests that Ferdinand’s prediction about Ramsdale’s future could be spot on.

Meanwhile, the race for the top-four in the Premier League has been heating up. The Emirates club are ahead of Tottenham Hotspur by two points in the fourth spot. They will be focused on extending that lead on Sunday when they take on Leeds United.
