Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are his favorite Arsenal players as the academy graduates continue to put in impressive performances.
The Gunners seem to have turned their fortunes around after an underwhelming start to the new campaign that saw them sink to the bottom of the Premier League table. However, their recent scintillating form has propelled them to the sixth spot in the table.
The north London club extended their unbeaten run to 7 league games following the 2-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday at the King Power Stadium. The visitors secured a comfortable win over the Foxes courtesy of first-half goals from Gabriel and Smith Rowe.
The Hale End graduates were the difference makers, yet again, as Saka set up the first goal and Smith Rowe scored the second.
Ferdinand had thoroughly enjoyed the display from the Gunners and claimed it to be their best first-half performance. He also reserved special praise for the club’s youngsters, Saka and Smith Rowe. He believes they pull the strings at the midfield, and the duo are capable of making things happen. Speaking on his Youtube channel, the 42-year-old said:
āIt was one of the best performances Iād seen in that first half. There was an element of control about it for the first 25, 30 minutes. Emile Smith Rowe, I love this player.”
“My two favorite players are Saka and Emile Smith Rowe in that team. Every time the ball goes to Saka, I think something could happen. Same with Emile Smith Rowe.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Arsenal currently have the youngest squad in the Premier League with academy graduates Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe leading the charge. While the former has been an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s team for the last two years, the latter exploded onto the scene last campaign.
Although they have been deservedly rewarded with iconic No.7 and No.10 shirts by the club, it is important to bear in mind that they are still at very early stages of their careers. They shouldn’t be expected to perform week in and week out as such high expectations could affect their game.
Nevertheless, the duo have bright careers ahead of them and are, undoubtedly, going to play a pivotal role in the club’s quest for European football.
The Gunners are just three points behind fourth-placed West Ham United. The game against Watford on Sunday presents them with the perfect opportunity to take a step closer towards the coveted top-four spot in the Premier League table.
