Report: Arsenal will be offered PSG star in swap deal for Guendouzi

Arsenal will be offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Julian Draxler in a potential swap deal involving Matteo Guendouzi, a report from L’Equipe claims.

Guendouzi was deemed surplus to requirements at the start of the season and he was hence loaned out to Hertha Berlin for the entire campaign.

The Frenchman has impressed during his time in the Bundesliga with two goals and one assist in 13 games, but his future is uncertain with the recent change of managers.

There is the possibility that Guendouzi’s loan deal could be mutually terminated and L’Equipe reports that Les Parisiens may make an attempt to sign their former academy graduate.

It is added that Draxler, who has less than six months remaining on his contract, could be offered in a potential exchange deal for the France Under-21 international.

Our view:

Draxler has been linked with the Gunners since the summer of 2013 when he was with Schalke 04 and over the years, he has evolved into a quality playmaker.

The Gunners are close to signing a creative midfielder with Martin Odegaard arriving from Real Madrid on loan and it appears unlikely that Mikel Arteta may want another attacking addition.

Draxler’s career has been injury-plagued over the past few years. He has suffered multiple muscular injuries, in particular, and there is some familiarity with Aaron Ramsey, who picked up numerous niggles during his time at the club.

With his contract expiring in the summer, the Gunners should not consider a move for Draxler unless Les Parisiens are willing to hand a transfer fee for Guendouzi on top of the German acting as a makeweight.

Guendouzi’s deal with the Gunners only concludes in June 2022.
