Arsenal are reportedly keen on appointing Max Allegri as their next manager, should Arsene Wenger part ways with the club in the summer.
The Gunners have already offered a fresh two-year deal to Wenger, which would extend his stay until 2019, but the Frenchman is yet to decide on his situation.
A section of the clubs faithful are said to want the end of Wenger’s 21-year reign following disappointing results against Chelsea and Bayern Munich, which has surely ended their chances in the Premier League and Champions League respectively.
According to The Sun, the Gunners hierarchy have drawn up a list of potential candidates to succeed Wenger which include the likes of Thomas Tuchel (Borussia Dortmund) and Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid).
However, it is Juventus’ Allegri, who remains their top target as they seek to recruit an experienced manager, who could stay for the long-term.
Allegri had been the subject of interest from Chelsea prior to Antonio Conte’s appointment earlier last summer, and it is understood that he would relish an opportunity in the English top-flight.
The Old Lady boss has deployed the 4-2-3-1 formation in recent months in Turin, and he would have no difficulty in adapting to the Gunners’ setup, should he arrive in the summer.
Meantime, a host of Juventus players including Paulo Dybala and Leonardo Bonucci have had fallouts with the Italian coach during the ongoing campaign, but the latter accepted that it was truly his fault earlier in the week.
Wenger is due to decide on his future in the next 50 days, and it is predicted that he may bow out of the club following his recent statement where he suggested that he is well aware of the club’s atmosphere.
“My preference is always to manage Arsenal and I’ve shown that throughout my time here,” He was quoted as saying in The Sun. “But I’m adult enough to analyse the situation.”
The Frenchman still has a realistic chance of lifting the FA Cup with the Gunners, and who knows, he may stay put if his side are to win the famous old trophy for the third time in four seasons.
