Paul Merson claims Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli is a superstar

Gabriel Martinelli

Arsenal icon Paul Merson has heaped praise on Gabriel Martinelli and thinks the winger has a huge future ahead of him at the Emirates Stadium.

The 21-year-old joined the Gunners from Brazilian club Ituano in 2019. He had a great start to life in the English capital, scoring ten goals and registering four assists in just 15 starts in his debut season.

Martinelli’s impressive displays for Arsenal in the recent campaigns did not go unnoticed as he made his debut for the Brazil national team earlier this year. He has already opened his scoring tally this season, scoring two goals in the opening two league games to help the team clinch all six points.

Merson has enjoyed watching the Brazilian play for the Gunners. He believes Martinelli possesses the skill and pace to reach great heights at the club. The former Arsenal man thinks the youngster is a superstar in the making if he can keep himself fit. While speaking to SportsKeeda, the 52-year-old said:

“Gabriel Martinelli is a very good footballer, I just hope the kid can stay fit and get a run of games under his belt.”

“He’s an unreal outlet and has got great pace and skill, while he has also shown that he can score this season. If he can stay injury free, I genuinely believe he’s a superstar in the making.”

The youngster has struggled with injuries during his time at the club but has managed to stay fit for a while now. His recent performances have helped him become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Martinelli adds a new dimension to the Gunners’ attack with his electrifying pace. Having already scored two goals, he will be determined to continue this form for the rest of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the north Londoners are back in action on Saturday as they take on Bournemouth at Dean Court. They have started the season with successive victories over Crystal Palace and Leicester City. With the reinforcements they made in the summer, Arsenal look like a side destined for a top-four finish this season.
