As per journalist Charles Watts, Benfica defender Nuno Tavares is at London Colney to put finishing touches to his Arsenal move.
The 20-year-old has been in England for the past few days as he had to quarantine after arriving from Lisbon. The Benfica left-back is seen as a backup for Kieran Tierney, a position that really needed to be taken care of this summer.
Watts posted an update regarding Tavares on his Twitter account. He said:
“Nuno Tavares is at London Colney today following his isolation period in London. Arsenal are hoping everything will be done in time for him to travel with the squad to Scotland for next week’s training camp.”

This comes after Fabrizio Romano claimed a couple of days back that personal terms over a five-year deal have been agreed. A Bola also reported last week that the defender wrapped up his medical in Lisbon.
The Portuguese youngster is needed at the Emirates as Sead Kolasinac is expected to move this summer. That would have left the Gunners short-handed in the full-back area which isn’t the case anymore.
Arsenal Fever View
It is good that the defender is finalising his move today as it gives the 20-year-old a chance to travel with the first team for the pre-season. This will be the time for Tavares to show Mikel Arteta what he can do.
It will be a few more weeks before Tierney returns to north London so, the left-back must give it his all to try and impress the coaching staff. The Benfica man has the qualities required to succeed in England.
Despite his age, he is physically strong which is necessary to blossom in the Premier League. And apart from being pacey, the full-back has a wonderful cross on him which would be great news for the Gunners attackers.
Pre-season is a time where we get to see talents that otherwise will not be getting a chance. And with the north Londoners set to fly to Scotland soon, these upcoming games will give us a glimpse of the talent that is present in the squad. Tavares is already looking like a shrewd signing for Arsenal as they are filling an important role with an exciting talent for an incredibly cheap price. Fans will hope that the defender is just the start to this transfer window and there is more to come.
