A lot of the focus on Arsenal was understandably on the signing of Lucas Torreira. This is because the deal has been in the pipeline for a long time and it was a relief when it was announced.

As a result of this, not a lot of attention was given to another transfer that the Gunners made. That would be the French Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient.

Though the club has not given any sort of confirmation, a video of the player signing his Arsenal contract has been doing the rounds. This is a very good piece of business by the club as the player is someone who is highly regarded in his country and according to reports the youngster has signed a 5-year contract.

The idea to bring Guendouzi to the Emirates was suggested by the Head Of Recruitment, Sven Mislintat. He was the first to initiate any sort of contact with the player’s camp. Once this was done, it was down to new manger Unai Emery who took it upon himself to convince the player.

With this transfer, Guendouzi becomes the fifth player that Arsenal have brought in this transfer window. After the appointment of Emery, many fans were wondering how the funds would be used to buy players. And based on what we have seen so far, it appears that the funds have been used in the right manner.

The Frenchman had a breakthrough in the 2017/18 season where he established himself in the Lorient first team. But, the relationship between Guendouzi and the club took a turn for the worse and that has resulted in Arsenal benefiting and allowed them to get the player.

It will be interesting to see how the player will be used in the forthcoming season. Unai Emery has spoken of his willingness to integrate youth into the team and therefore there could be a chance for players such as Guendouzi. After the departure of Arsene Wenger, there was a lot of apprehension among Arsenal fans but the transfer activity of the club has gone some way to assuage those fears.
