Arsenal have always been known for their ability to bring in talent from the youth teams and have them do well for the first team.
Another youngster could be on that path as left-back Dominic Thompson has signed his first professional contract with the Gunners, according to youth expert Jeorge Bird.
He has been a key member of the Under 18 side and has grown by leaps and bounds during the past season. This is promising news for Arsenal as it is always good to see players coming up from the youth team and make a mark for himself.
And left-back is an area where the team could use some depth as it would be nice to have cover for Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal.
Thompson will no longer be eligible for the Under-18 and therefore it makes sense for him to have signed this contract. In the recent past, not a lot of players from the youth teams have gone on to become household names with the exception of a few.
Fans will be excited to see how Thompson will be able to contribute to the first team in the upcoming season. While it is always nice to see players being transferred in, fans always want to see one of their own do well.
The youngster has already proven that he has what it takes to do well in pressure situations as he has played as the captain on occasion. This will be vital when he makes the step up to the first team.
If he manages to impress manager Unai Emery, he may end up getting chances to play in the Carabao Cup. Having players such as Kolasinac and Monreal will make it difficult for Thompson to break through but there is a feeling at the club that he has what it takes.
The fact that he has been given a contract is proof of the faith that Arsenal have in Thompson. And maybe with some time training with the first team, he may be able to follow in the footsteps of Ashley Cole.
