Mesut Ozil hints at Arsenal stay as midfielder talks up pre-season

Mesut Ozil

German international Mesut Ozil may have given a big hint on his Arsenal stay as he waits upon the Gunners trip Down Under during pre-season.

The World Cup winner missed the previous pre-season due to his Euro 2016 commitments, but he is now eager to participate in the club’s Australia tour scheduled later next month.

Ozil has been excluded out of Germany’s Confederations Cup squad with Joachim Loew opting to rest his key players, who could be used later on in the World Cup qualifiers next term.

The 28-year-old’s future has been the topic of discussion in recent weeks with his contract due to expire in 12 months’ time, but the former Real Madrid man is eagerly waiting for his chance in pre-season where the Gunners take on Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers at the ANZ Stadium.

“I hear Sydney is a nice city with a lot of nice people living there. I don’t know a lot about Australia but this is a good opportunity to see the city, the people and I’m really happy to go there with Arsenal,” he is quoted on the club’s official website.

“It is really good to have pre-season with the team, in my career it has always been like that. If you play at a big tournament, especially with Germany, you really miss pre-season.

Arsenal have not been to Australia for nearly 40 years and the fans will get the opportunity to have a look at their favourite stars including Ozil, who has had only one pre-season (2015) with the north London club.

Ozil, who joined the Gunners on transfer deadline day in September 2013, has yet to ink terms over a new contract as he analyses the transfer activity during the summer transfer window.
