Martín Odegaard is reportedly unhappy at Real Madrid and is exploring the possibility of a return to Arsenal as per reports in Spanish publication Sport.
After failing to break into Zidane’s first eleven, the 22-year-old was sent out on loan to the Emirates club in the second half of last season. The Norwegian has showcased his talent in the Premier League during the short stint, scoring one goal and notching up two assists in 14 league appearances.
According to Sport, the midfielder’s recent display against Rangers has led the Santiago Bernabeu side to consider selling him this summer. The Spanish club also feel that the player doesn’t suit their style of play.
The report further claims that if things don’t change then the player wants to leave and sees north London as his priority destination. The midfielder has also asked his representatives to try and negotiate a deal with the Emirates club.
The Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the north London club’s number one target for the attacking midfield position is Odegaard and they have not given up their hope to persuade the midfielder away from the Spanish capital, despite the Norwegian’s farewell message on Instagram.
Arsenal Fever View:
Signing Martin Odegaard will be a great acquisition for Arsenal. Following the arrival of Nuno Tavares, Sambi Lokonga and Ben White whose transfer only depends on passing the medical, bringing in the Norwegian will make it an excellent transfer window for the Emirates club.
The 22-year-old can play excellent defence splitting passes which will encourage the forward players to make runs in behind the opposition defence. The midfielder can deliver excellent crosses from set-pieces and is efficient in scoring from direct free-kicks. His fluidity with the ball and ability to attract players will open up spaces for the strikers. He also has excellent close controls to escape the tight areas.
However, it will be interesting to see if Carlo Ancelotti grants the Norwegian’s departure or not. The Italian likes to use a creative midfielder in his first eleven and the youngster could be an option for that role. But, following the financial difficulties during this pandemic, Los Blancos could be looking to cash in on players to bring in some new faces.
Nevertheless, Martin Odegaard will be a perfect addition to Arsenal’s midfield. Arteta is looking for a new creative midfielder this summer and the Real Madrid man will be able to fulfil that role perfectly. The Norwegian’s arrival will help Emile Smith Rowe’s development and the Englishman’s workload will be measured properly.
