There is a huge possibility that Martin Odegaard might join Arsenal this summer, claims Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero.
Despite having a productive loan stint at the Emirates Stadium last season, the 22-year-old found himself way down in the pecking order at Real Madrid. The midfielder was not even named in the 21-men squad against Deportivo Alavés in the La Liga season opener.
Speaking on Sky Sports Montero stated that the Norwegian midfielder currently does not have any squad number at Real Madrid and there is a big likelihood that the youngster could leave Los Blancos in the coming days and the north London club could be a possible destination.
The journalist further claims that Real Madrid are aware that Arsenal have enough financial resources to make this happen. And the Spanish giants might allow the youngster’s departure as Carlo Ancelotti already has plenty of resources in midfield. He said:
“Real Madrid knows that Arsenal is a huge possibility because economically they have enough for the player. We have to remember when Carlo Ancelotti was asked about the future of Martin Odegaard, he feels in the same path as the club.
“He said there are eight midfielders, so players like Isco, Asensio, Sergio Arribas and even Dani Cabellos. It seems they are all before Martin Odegaard. He hasn’t a number. If you saw Real Madrid’s website right now, Martin Odegaard has no number. It seems he is going to leave and Arsenal is a huge possibility.”
Arsenal Fever View:
Signing Martin Odegaard will be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal. The midfielder has already showcased his talent in the Premier League last season and will not require much time to settle down with the squad.
However, the north London club will have to move quickly to get this deal over the line as soon as possible. After starting the season on a disappointing note, the next two fixtures will not get any easier as they will have to encounter Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.
The 22-year-old is technically gifted and has excellent passing range. He can provide threading passes through the lines, encouraging the forward players to make runs behind the opposition defences. The youngster can deliver excellent crosses from set-pieces and also has the efficiency to wriggle through tight defences.
The arrival of Odegaard will help Emile Smith Rowe to flourish. The Englishman showed glimpses in the opening games against Brentford and was the brightest spark in what was a lackluster display from the north Londoners.
