As per a report from Spanish publication AS, Martin Odegaard is close to joining Arsenal on a permanent basis.
The Norwegian spent the second half of last season on loan with the Gunners and has impressed with his playmaking skills. Once that spell had ended, it appeared that the midfielder will stay with the Los Blancos club for the upcoming season.
However, AS claim that Odegaard gave the go-ahead for a move to Arsenal after feeling disillusioned at Madrid. And as a result of that, both the player and the Spanish club feel that a move away is the best course of action.
According to the report, negotiations between Real and the north Londoners has accelerated in the last few hours and if the transfer goes through, it would be worth €50m. Odegaard is considered to be the English club’s priority with regard to an attacking midfielder.
This news was confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano who tweeted:
“Martin Ødegaard would love to re-join Arsenal. He was really happy during his loan spell last season and he’s waiting for Arsenal bid to be accepted by Real Madrid, once the green light arrives. Ødegaard has a great relationship with Arteta and board members too.”

Last season, the fortunes of the Gunners drastically improved once Odegaard was introduced into the team. Though the 22-year-old had an injury that blunted his impact, this loan spell was a success.
It was imperative that the north Londoners got a creative midfielder to help with their goal-scoring woes. Though the Norway international is not known for finding the back of the net, he can help others get on the scoresheet.
Though there were rumours of a move for James Maddison, it appears that the Gunners have gone back to an option that worked for them. The player’s relationship with Mikel Arteta would have also played a part in making this move happen.
Arsenal are finally about to get the type of midfielder they have needed for a long time. The onus will be on Odegaard to show that he is worth the investment. If the midfielder can contribute by assisting and scoring a few goals, this signing would have worked out really well.
