Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has emerged as surprise option for Spanish club Valencia ahead of this summer’s transfer window. The Frenchman inked a new long-term deal with the Gunners earlier in the year.
Spanish publication AS claims that Los Che are lining up a loan approach for Coquelin as they seek to bolster their squad for the 2017/18 season and beyond.
Coquelin, 26, has not been in the best of form for the Gunners this season, and this has seen him drop to the bench following Arsene Wenger’s decision to switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation.
Granit Xhaka has been allotted as the regular in the new setup while Aaron Ramsey has accompanied him in the centre of the park whenever he is deemed fit.
Coquelin has racked a total of 27 appearances for the FA Cup finalists this term, but most of those outings have come mainly due to the injury absence of the Welshman.
The Frenchman had been an initial favourite among the Gunners’ faithful, but he now appears to receive criticism whenever he is on the field as his presence has often coincided with the club dropping points in the Premier League.
Valencia, currently managed by Voro, have managed to claim a respectable 12th place in La Liga following an early-season stumble, and they will be hoping to make a good start next term in order to compete for the European places.
Coquelin currently has three more years on his Gunners deal, and this could be the prime reason behind Los Che proposing a season-long loan for the French enforcer.
