Kieran Tierney signs new long-term Arsenal contract

Kieran Tierney

Kieran Tierney has agreed to a new long-term contract, Arsenal announced on their official website.

The Scot arrived in the summer of 2019 and has become an important member of the Gunners’ setup. The left-back played a key role in helping the club win a FA Cup and Community Shield.

The north London club have not disclosed the length of the new contract but the Independent are claiming that it is a five-year deal. The Athletic are reporting that the defender will earn around £110,000-per-week.

Manager Mikel Arteta was delighted by the extension as he told the club website:

“This is great news for us today. As manager of the club, speaking on behalf of the coaching staff and the entire staff, it’s a pleasure to work with KT. His quality, energy, commitment and professionalism, not only on matchdays, but every day in training are always at such a high level.”

As for the man of the moment, Tierney reflected on the news in an interview on the official website. He said:

“The way the club is run from the inside is amazing. I love everyone. I love all of the staff, I love all of the players, I love the manager and just working with them is an absolute joy. Being happy in life speaks for a lot and I am happy, so I was more than happy to commit my future [to the club].”

Extending the left-back’s stay secures an important part of the team for many years to come. The Scot is integral to Arteta’s vision and having him at the club for longer is great news.

Fans and the management will be hoping that the defender goes through an entire season without suffering an injury.

This continues a series of good decisions made by the Emirates club as they have negotiated new contracts with several other young stars. This includes Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun.

The next in line could be midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe and it would be another smart decision by the Gunners. Keeping hold of such players bodes well for the future and can help the team become a force to be reckoned with again. Kieran Tierney has been one of Arsenal’s best players ever since arriving from Celtic, and this new deal is proof of the club’s faith in him.
